ATLANTA – Tom Glavine went back on the Atlanta Braves’ disabled list, a day after the two-time NL Cy Young Award winner was hit hard in his first start since June 10.

Trying to overcome an elbow injury, Glavine gave up seven runs, seven hits and four walks in an 11-7 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Thursday night. The 42-year-old, who has a torn flexor tendon in his left elbow, has been hoping to avoid surgery. He experienced more discomfort on the mound.

“It just was a little sore,” Braves manager Bobby Cox said Friday.

Atlanta purchased the contract of right-hander Matt DeSalvo from Triple-A Richmond.
