The Chilton County YMCA’s after-school camp has a clear-cut strategy this year: to produce healthier kids.

YMCA Camp Director Josh Allen said the program is focusing on the fundamentals of physical fitness such as hand-eye coordination and motor function pertaining to every part of the body.

“We are focusing on getting the children’s bodies fit,” Allen said. “They need more activity, so we’re trying to make sure they’re getting plenty of activity in the afternoons.”

Camp includes all kids ages 5-14 and lasts from 3-6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The program concentrates on a different part of the body each day.

Parents who wish to get their kids involved may sign up to have their children placed in after-school care, Allen said.

A bus runs in the Clanton area from schools to the YMCA. Parents are expected to be at the Y by 6 p.m. to pick up their kids.
