TROY – Receiver Josh Jarboe found a home at Troy on Wednesday just days after he was kicked off the Oklahoma football team for a profane Internet video that shows him rapping about guns and killing people.

Trojans coach Larry Blakeney said he met with the incoming freshman from Decatur, Ga., and was convinced he could be a productive member of the team.

“Troy University has always been interested in providing opportunities for young people to better themselves, and this is a situation where a young man who has made some mistakes is looking for a second chance,” Blakeney said in a statement.

Players transferring from one school to another in the NCAA’s top division normally must sit out one year, but Troy has yet to receive word from Oklahoma about whether Jarboe had enrolled in classes there, the key to determine his eligibility.

“It’s still up in the air,” said Troy sports publicist Ricky Hazel. Jarboe should be able to play at Troy this year if he was not enrolled at Oklahoma, Hazel said.

Jarboe was considered one of the nation’s top recruits at receiver this year.

Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops dismissed the 6-foot-3, 195-pound Jarboe from his team on Aug. 1 after the player appeared in a profanity-laced video still available on YouTube. In it, Jarboe raps about shooting people and being from Atlanta, “where they tote guns.”

Jarboe signed with the Sooners in February, just weeks before he was arrested when an assistant principal at Cedar Grove High School in suburban Atlanta told police he saw Jarboe grab a gun from a car.

Jarboe was expelled, but completed his high school degree online.

Jarboe pleaded guilty in May to bringing a gun to school and carrying a pistol without a license. A judge reduced the charges to misdemeanors because Jarboe was a first-time offender, and Jarboe was sentenced to two years of probation and 80 hours of community service.
