The upcoming municipal elections set to take place on Aug. 26 was another subject on the Maplesville Town Council’s agenda Monday night.

During the meeting, the council approved four women to be election officials for the town. Working the polls this year will be Brenda Jones, Elizabeth Hayes, Annie Taylor and Nadine Dobbs.

These women will be at the Maplesville Fire and Rescue Station located on Railroad Street, which is the site of the election, on Aug. 26 where they will be available to help people with using the voting machines.

“I will be here also to help open the polls and close the polls, but the girls will be the ones out there all day working with the public,” Town Clerk Sheila Haigler said.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on election day. The only race voters in Maplesville will have is for mayor.

Haigler added that the results of the election will be placed at the Maplesville Fire Station for anyone to come and look at while the official total will be documented the next day at the courthouse.

During Monday night’s meeting the Maplesville town council also agreed to borrow $15,000 to help them with paying their bills for this year.

This will be the first time in almost four years the town has had to borrow money to make regular monthly bill payments.

The council members are already working on ways to cut back expenses and catch back up during next year’s budget.
