Authorities are investigating the murder of a man at a residence on County Road 530 Monday morning.

Sheriff Kevin Davis identified the victim as a 50-year-old man who died of a single gunshot wound. The name of the victim was not released due to the ongoing investigation.

Davis said the owner of the residence drove by the home early Monday morning and noticed that the front door was open. Upon entering the home, the owner found the victim dead and immediately called 911. The victim was apparently a tenant of the resident.

Assisting the Sheriff’s Department are the Chilton County Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force, Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences and the 19th Circuit District Attorney’s Office. Officials stayed on the scene collecting evidence and conducting interviews until about 4 p.m. yesterday.

Davis didn’t know how long the victim had been dead when he was discovered.

“We are still waiting on forensic evidence to determine the time of death and what exactly happened,” Davis said.

No suspects have been arrested, but Davis said his department is following some leads in the case.
