Monday may be the first day of school for k-12 students, but Thursday will only be registration for Jeff State Community College in Clanton. Thursday, Aug. 14, members of the Jeff State faculty will be located at the old McKinnon Toyota building where they will be registering students for their first semester of classes here in Chilton County.

Students who have not yet registered for classes can do so in person on Thursday or can visit the Jeff State website.

“We have encouraged most of our students to register online. We are more than happy to help register them in person though,” said Denise Coburn, Director of Institutional Sites with Jeff State Community College. “We will not be able to take the payments for class hours unless they are written out with a check, however; due to resources available to us at the moment. By registering online the students can use a credit card or bank account to make the payment.”

Students who register in person only Thursday can pay at time of registration or when classes begin the following Monday, Aug. 18.

Any students coming in to register should bring a application as well as a high school ACT test score and an unofficial copy of their transcript showing any college courses that they may have taken in prier years of college.

The first classes will be held in the old McKinnon Toyota Dealership building until the new facility is fully open and operational. Students can take anywhere between 1 and 6 courses with each credit hour costing $102.

“Students can take up to 19 credit hours within a semester and that is a full load of 6 classes with one being a science which counts as four credit hours instead of the traditional three,” Coburn said.
