Bobby R. Cook is proud to announce that he has qualified to run for the Clanton City Council, representing Ward 2.

“I have observed much progress in Clanton in recent years. It is evident that our community is moving forward. We are creating a better job market and demanding higher standards for our educational system. In addition, we have created excellent recreational facilities and quality residential areas. As a lifelong resident of Clanton, I am excited about the possibility of getting involved on a political level to help continue to make Clanton a great place to live and raise our children and grandchildren,” Cook said.

Cook is an experienced and dedicated leader in the community.

He is retired from a 37 year career in the banking industry.

His career began at the Bank of Thorsby (currently regions bank). In 1973 he joined First Federal Savings and Loan Association (currently Southfirst Bank).

He later became their President and oversaw the construction of their new facility in downtown Clanton.

During his tenure he also served as president of the Alabama League of Savings Institutions. He retired in 2000.

Cook has been a Deacon and Finance Director of First Baptist Church for 27 years.

He currently holds a seat on the City Water Board. He has served the community in a variety of roles, including president and board member of the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce, president of the Clanton Kiwanis Club, treasurer of the Cattlemen’s Association and board member of the Clanton County Club.

He is a registered official for the Alabama High School Athletic Association in baseball, basketball, football and softball and has served as District Director for the Alabama High School Athletic Association Basketball Division.

He and his wife, Betty have one daughter, Melinda McCullough, Son-in-law, David and two grandsons, Pate and Parker, who all live in Clanton.

“My objective is to further improve the quality of life in Clanton while maintaining our small town sense of community,” Cook said.

“As a retiree, I have the time, dedication and experience necessary to be an integral part of the Clanton City Council. I want to work for you to continue to make Clanton a great place to live.”
