Operation Lifesaver will be bringing some safety information to the Town of Thorsby on Friday. The group has prepared to set up at Richard Wood Park and will be talking to their audience about railroad safety and the proper ways to cross railroad tracks.

Executive Director Operation Lifesaver’s Southern Division, Nancy Hudson, said a high number of deaths happen on railroad tracks that do not even involve a railroad crossing.

For a citizen to cross railroad tracks, no matter their mode of transportation, they must be at a crossing. Since railroad tracks are private property, crossing them at any other point can not only be a danger to your health but it can also be a danger to your wallet since you can be hit with a heavy fine for trespassing.

The group will be in Thorsby from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m., and everyone with railroad related safety questions should venture to the park and listen to the motto of Operation Lifesavor: “Stay off! Stay Away! Stay Alive!”
