The victim of a Saturday afternoon drowning accident on Waxahatchee Creek has been identified as 4-year-old James Robert Shaver of Verbena.

The family of the victim reportedly lives just inside Autauga County, confirmed Chilton County Deputy Coroner Awlahjaday Agee.

Saturday’s incident marks the second accidental drowning in Chilton County in less than two weeks. Agee as well as Chilton County Sheriff Kevin Davis said they are continuing to remember the families of both victims in their thoughts and prayers.

“A lot of times we don’t understand why and we don’t know why, but we have to trust everything is in God’s hands,” Davis said. “It takes a toll on the community any time something happens, especially for the families.”

Davis expressed appreciation to all individuals and agencies who responded to each of the calls or assisted in any way.

“They do it out of the desire of their hearts to help someone,” he said.

Services for Shavers will be held today, Tuesday, Aug. 5, at Bethany Baptist Cemetery at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Wayne Hughes officiating and Martin Funeral Home directing.
