Marie Maxine Humphrey and John Lyman Marshall were united in Holy Matrimony on May 31 at 5:30 p.m. at Eastern Hills Baptist Church in Montgomery. Dr. Rick Marshall, father of the groom, officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Humphrey of Fairmont, W.Va. Marie’s grandparents are the late Mrs. Betty Levelle, Mr. and Mrs. Charles J. Levelle, Mr. Ronald Humphrey, and Mr. and Mrs. James Gabbey all of Fairmont, W.Va.

The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Rick Marshall of Montgomery. John’s grandparents are Mrs. Jean Stephens and the late Mr. Brad Stephens formerly of Decatur and Mrs. Lucille Marshall and the late Mr. Lyman Marshall formerly of Dothan.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a Princess style gown with a crystal embellished bodice and chapel-length train. She chose a finger-tip veil and carried a hand- tied nosegay of many hues of yellow roses, peonies, and stock.

Best friend, Hannah Whittaker of Monet, Mo. served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Joy Watts of Pelham and Julie Dennis of Birmingham, sisters of the groom; Ginger Lacey of Sylacauga, Elizabeth Pirtle of Montgomery and Aleshia Whitlow of Auburn, friends of the bride. The bridesmaids wore butter-colored, strapless, full-length satin gowns designed by Alfred Angelo. They carried hand-tied nosegays of white roses and stock clustered around a white peony.

Flower girls were Lauren Watts and Claire Dennis, nieces of the groom. They were dressed in tea-length white silk dresses and carried small lanterns with a yellow ribbon.

Best friend, Brent Spiers of Wetumpka, served as best man. Groomsmen were Chase Humphrey of Fairmont, W.Va., brother of the bride; Greg Watts of Pelham and Jeremy Dennis of Birmingham, brothers-in-law of the groom; Scott Presnell of Fort Worth, Texas, Paul Whitlow of Auburn and Jamie Williams of Shorter, friends of the groom. The groomsmen wore black Ralph Lauren tuxedoes accented by butter-colored vests and ties. Their boutonnires were small white dendrobium orchids.

Ring bearers were Marshall Watts and Andrew Dennis, nephews of the groom. They wore white silk shorts and shirts and carried yellow hand-made pillows.

A special moment for the groom’s mother was when he returned to escort her out of the sanctuary following the ceremony. A Southern theme reception was held in the church’s Reception Room and Prayer Garden, featuring a beautiful fountain. Placed under a gazebo in the garden, the beautiful multi-tiered butter-yellow bride’s cake was garnished with white roses and topped with a small bride and groom. The groom’s cake was a three-tiered chocolate cake covered with camouflage fondant topped with a deer buck and placed under a gazebo in the Reception Room. This surprise for the groom was made by the bride’s friend, Brenda Fryer. The King’s Table catered the event.

After a honeymoon to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon, the couple now resides in Wetumpka.
