The City of Clanton decided to pay the Chilton County Road Department $22,000 to pave a portion of County Road 41.

The road department is repaving the road in a stretch from Temple Road to the Alabama Emergency Management Agency. A 1,500 square-foot portion of the road is in Clanton city limits.

In other business, the council:

concurred with the Zoning Board of Adjustment’s decision to deny rezoning property at the intersection of Lay Dam Road and Rocket Avenue from R-1 residential to B-2 business. The property is owned by Marvin Vines.

hired William Groom, Herdis Minor, Curtis Wyatt and Jeffrey Nix for full-time positions.

transferred Freddie Mayfield to investigator and Jerry Wayne Hood to patrolman, both in the police department.

purchased two police cameras for a total of $6,300.

hired Trent Gray full-time for City Park.

voted 4-0 to fix a 10-foot alley next to Ace Hardware provided the resurfacing doesn’t cause any flooding problems.

allowed Police Investigator Buck Foshee to remain a part-time officer for the city for the remaining cases of which he is still the lead investigator. Police Chief James Henderson said Foshee would only be compensated for his time in court. It would not be continued on a regular basis.

approved a resolution that would not force Henderson to retire when he reaches retirement age next week. The council extended his stay until the new administration takes office in November.
