31-year-old pedestrian dies in train wreck

A 31-year-old man from Shelby was killed after being struck by a CSX train between County Road 25 and Highway 155 around 7:30 a.m. today.

Police located the victim struck by a train about two miles north of the County Road 25 crossing.

The train was stopped just south of the County Road 135 bridge.

The victim has not been identified since officials have not yet contacted the victim’s next of kin.

Jemison Police Chief Brian Stilwell said there appeared to be no foul play in the accident, but no reason was given to why the person was on the train tracks.
