Severe storms yesterday afternoon caused numerous emergency calls at one time including a tree that fall on an SUV on County Road 73 in northern Chilton County.

West Chilton and Dry Valley fire departments responded to the scene. The driver of the vehicle was able to escape from the vehicle unharmed. The tree blocked the road for almost an hour as workers had to cut the tree to move the road.

At the same time, several other departments were dispatched on emergency calls. North Chilton responded to a structure fire caused by lightning. There were also two vehicle crashes – one on Highway 31 near Minooka Park and another on County Road 51.

Chilton County EMA director Bill Collum said that no major damage was reported during the storms yesterday.

More than an inch fell in places across northern and eastern Chilton County while the south western part of the county saw little rain.
