Special bus coming to town

The Mom and Me Chilton County group are hosting a special guest at The Clanton Church of Christ.

The Big Green Bus will be coming to visit and give children, 18 months to seven years of age, a chance to enjoy a day of gymnastics fun. The bus will be at the church on August 9 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The Big Green Bus is a school bus converted into a gym. Children can test their balance and gymnastic skills on the balance beam, horizontal bar, tumbling mats, vault, mini-trampoline, rock climbing wall, zip line, parachute, monkey bars, tunnels, slides, parallel bars, ball pit, hula hoops and more inside the bus.

Amber Holley, who has been a gymnast for over 15 years and has taught gymnastics in the Montgomery area for five years, directs the Big Green Bus.

“I really enjoy being around kids. That is one reason why I work so hard to make sure that they get to have a fun experience while they are learning something new,” Holley said.

She attended Faulkner University where she earned a degree in elementary education. She is safety certified by the USA Gymnastics Association and CPR certified.

Holley uses the bus’s equipment to teach children gymnastics in a fun way.

Of course all of this equipment cannot possibly fit on one bus, at one time and still allow kids to play on it.

“Each class has a different lesson plan,” Holley said. “For that lesson the equipment needed is loaded onto the bus and driven to the destination.”

Advance tickets for the Big Green Bus visit to Clanton can be bought for $5 each or at the door for $10. All of the proceeds will go to the Mom and Me Chilton County group.
