List of candidates finalized for city, town elections

Tuesday was the last day to qualify for mayor and city council positions in Chilton County. Every city in the county is set to have a mayoral election.

Debbie Orange finalized her list of candidates for Clanton’s municipal offices with three qualifications for mayor and 15 qualifications for city council.

Qualified mayoral candidates are incumbent Billy Joe Driver, Ann Baker and Ralph Payton.

In Ward 1, Kendra Williams, Ronnie Porter, Jarrad Bates, Bill Neussl and Jeff Price have qualified.

In Ward 2, Vann Smith, Mark Knight and Bobby Cook have qualified for city council.

In Ward 3, Bobby Easterling and Sammy Wilson have turned in qualification packets.

For Ward 4, Annie Winters Varner, Greg DeJarnett, Juanita Parker and William Trimble have qualified for city council.

In Ward 5, Mary Mell Smith and Paul Brooks have qualified.

Maplesville

Maplesville’s town clerk Sheila Haigler reports that the mayoral race will be a two-way election between W.C. Hayes and Kurt Wallace.

Each district for city council only had one qualification.

John Caudle qualified for District 1.

Mike Bearden qualified for District 2.

Aubrey Latham qualified for District 3.

Ray Mitchell qualified for District 4, and Jim Threadgill has qualified for District 5.

Thorsby and Jemison

Thorsby and Jemison will both being having a multiple candidate mayoral race.

Thorsby’s candidates are incumbent Tom Bentley, Tracia Bussey and Dearl Hilyer.

Wayne Caton, Kenneth Ray, Brian “Bucky” Jackson and Eddie Reed have qualified for mayor in Jemison.

Thorsby had seven people qualify for town council positions.

In Place 1, Neil Benson has qualified.

In Place 2, Jean Nelson has qualified.

In Place 3, Willis Britt has qualified.

For Place 4, James Shropshire and Harry Adkins have qualified.

In Place 5, Tara Jewell and Jack Allen have both qualified.

Jemison’s city council race will be short and sweet. All places on the council have just one candidate in each place except Place 1 and 3.

Raybon Ellison and George Brasher are running for Place 1. Danny Robinson has qualified for Place 2. Robert Morris and Junior Robinson have both qualified for Place 3 on the council. Place 4 and 5 qualifiers are Faye King and Sam Reed respectively.

Candidates must remember that July 21 is the last day for candidates to file the names of their campaign committee members with the probate judge.

Tuesday, Aug. 26 will be Election Day. Polls will open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Each candidate is welcome to apply for a poll watcher to be at each appointed poll to observe voting procedures. The request must be made in writing and signed by the candidate before it can be presented and approved by election officials at the polling place.
