Is it progress to add another empty building to the inventory on 31. Let's see if I can remember them all. There is the old supermarket and CVS. There is the old motel. There is the old antique store. The soon to be empty clothing stores. Then there are all the empty buildings next to Fred's. Real progress would be new business in town. Oh wait. There is a new business. There is a new Jack's across the street from the old Jack's. Why can't we attract a Lowe's, Home Depot, Publix, movie theater,

The live trap will work best. It can do it's work while you sleep. And if you have other intruders (there are lots of raccoons around to), it can catch them. Here are two hints. The traps stay outside, in the rain and early morning due. They get rusty or at least sluggish in closing. Try some WD40 and open and close the trap by hand a few times. You will be able to feel it getting looser. Second, use a chicken leg and tie it to the bottom of the trap. The harder it is for the critter to get the bait out, the more likely he is to spring the trap. By the way, if you catch a coon, remember, they can reach their hands through the trap a scratch you. I found that a claw hammer in each hand is a wonderful safety tool. Also remember, the normal range of these animals is 7 to 8 miles. If you let it free too close to home, it will just come back.

Again, I wonder where the priorities of the Clanton Advertiser are. A long article about a football coach in Iowa, but not a word about a wonderful Clanton doctor. Shame, shame on the editors and publisher of the Clanton Advertiser. Is football more important and health or is Iowa more important than Clanton. Or is it just easier to pick an article off the wire service than to go to the effort to write one in house.

There is one very positive thing to add about the Chilton County Hospital. The wait to get seen in the ER. I have been there on two occasions and both time it took longer to fill out the paper work than the waiting time. Even when I was having a heart attack in progress the waiting time at Baptist was longer than at CCH.

Since this seems to be the only place I can leave a comment, here goes. First on snakes. They steal my chickens eggs and eat the baby chickens. Hawks will even take off adult chickens. This is life in the wild and we should respect it and leave it alone. The only time to worry about snakes is when they get where our children are.

As to the hospital. Any small hospital will not have the quality or doctors or equipment a large hospital has. Have the Chilton County hospital is better than no hospital at all. It is getting better.

Lastly on the newspaper itself. I am very disappointed that the paper did not run any article about Dr Crues passing (other than the obit). She gave 16 years to Clanton, was a very good doctor and a truly compassionate person. For the Advertiser to ignore her passing truly says something about what a poor newspaper it is.

This is not exactly the biggest suprise I have ever had. Too many people smoke too much. Too many people drink too much and then drive. Too many parents teach their children to drive and shoot before they are mature enough to make good decisions. Too many people drive like they are NASCAR drivers (speed, follow too close). Look at the restaurants in Chilton County. Most of them are fast food. Look at what and how much the people of Chilton eat. There are way too many overweight people. If we want longer lives in Chilton County, we have to have lifestyles that promote good health.
