This is a very sad situation. Thank God the young girl responded to the situation the way she did. Had it not been for the quick actions of the mother to contact the police this pervert may very well have remained on the streets to pursue another victitm. I have lived in the West End Community all of my life. The comments that are often made about the community from people who are always looking from the outside are really simple minded. This situation could have happened in any community. Monstors such as Benny Nix come in all shapes, sizes, colors and creeds. West End is not the bad immoral place that a lot of people would like to think that it is. There are good people doing good things within the community just like there are bad people who choose to do bad things. But, this is true for all communities. Affluent communities have the same problems, but they would much rather keep their dirt behind closed doors. So people should really stop throwing stones, because the very stone thrown at someone may ricochet back and hit the thrower.

Why is it that people continue to question a person's salvation based on who they voted for in the presidental election? Ms. Cofer is indeed in need of prayer for being so judgemental. You can believe what you want concerning President-Elect Barack Obama and no matter how hard you pray or solicit prayers for his supporters, he is still the next President of the United States of America. If indeed your request for prayer was sincere it should have been for all of our leaders as nonexpert suggested. Are McCain supporters not in need of prayer? We all are in need of prayer.

With McCain/Palin losing by such a wide margin some of their supporters, like Ms. Cofer have nothing to stand on but fear tactics. I voted for Obama because I felt he was the best man for the job. What he stands for is the improvement of this country for all people.

As for the issue of voting for Obama to "make history" you can quit hoping that history was not a factor in this election. History was going to be made no matter which candidate won. It would not have even mattered if all candidates were white males as usual, they too would have "made history". There names would have gone down in the history books as well.

I am proud to say that I voted for Barack Obama. Not only am I proud, the majory of of people in this country are proud as well. As an African-American myself I was overjoyed and filled with pride to take part in such a historical moment by casting my vote for BARACK OBAMA!

Ms. Cofer, my prayer is that God will continue to bless and keep US ALL!

Unclesam, while you would like to be close by for ASE's explanation to God as to why he voted for Obama. Think about all of the things you will have to explain to God when that time comes and just think if he asks "Why did you vote for McCain?" I am sure you have an answer to that question and so much more. LOL! Instead of being judgemental and questioning a person's salvation because of who they voted for, be content with your own reasons for voting for your candidate of choice and understand that the majority of the country did not agree with you.

I have enjoyed reading all of the political comments made the past few months by people like ASE and November162000 just to name a couple. In a county and state that is obviously Republican it is going to be hard to accept and come to terms with this country's choice for president.

I am happy with the outcome of this election and I am so proud to have voted for Barack Obama. I'll continue to check in for the comments that entertain me so much. May God Bless Us All!!

The court has ruled, but Ward 4 is still hanging in the balance. NoSugar I also believe that Greg had every right to contest the election of Mr. Trimble. However, I have to agree with belklowe1 when it comes to Greg's chances of winning a special election at this point. Regardless of what one may think is right or wrong concernig the residency of Mr. Trimble, the people voted and the majority stood with Mr. Trimble. Being a resident of Ward 4 this is a hot topic for discussion. Most people still lean toward Mr. Trimble as their candidate of choice. A lot of it has to do with how some of Greg's supporters are approaching people concerning this matter. I am not saying that Greg is sending these people out to speak for him, but their approach is all wrong. Like I have stated before, I would be pleased with either one of these men representing Ward 4. Good luck to both men in all future endeavors.

I look forward to reading how the adults will take a stance on a mock election for children. TheDude you got it started right off the bat. Where are the rest of your fellow commentators? Can't wait to see how this goes.

I feel that Greg has the right to contest the election if he wants to. However, the majority of the people in that ward that cast a vote obviously wanted Mr. Trimble regardless of where he may live. There is something to be said for that and people know who they want to represent them. I know both men personally and would feel confident that either one of them would do a great job. When you really look at the situation concerning residency, both men are disconnected with the heart of this ward. Mr. Hill lived in the heart of this ward and he was truly dedicated to doing what was best for it. He connected with the people on a day to day basis not just at election time. Greg is really never in the community except for going to church. He does not have that relationship with the majority of the people in this ward. On the other hand Mr. Trimble does have a better connection with the people who live in this ward. Mr. Trimble has more approachabilty than Greg when it comes to the people. You hear it over and over again that Greg is disconnected from the community. I know that West End is not the only area in this ward, but it is the heart of the ward and the where the heart beats, the blood flows and that is the life of the ward. I really would be pleased with either one of these good men. Good luck to both. Oh yeah, southernpride why are you talking about race? Both of these men are African-American ... GET A CLUE!!!!

Regardless of your feelings RangerMark that school held a lot of memories for a lot of African-Americans in Chilton County. Yes, it should have been restored years ago, but that takes money, time and dedication. Look at the old Adair school lot ... it is an eyesore and the Board of Education is responsible for it. It takes a lot of time and effort for projects of that magnitude. When segregation was a mainstay in Chilton County, this was a place where African-Americans could get a good quality education without being ridiculed and looked down upon. Now that the structure is gone the memories will live on forever.

Novemer162000:
Wow!... maybe not a two year old, but definately a three year old. I guess having that beer while passing the prozac explains it all. We all have our issues and we all stand behind our candidate of choice. All I have to say is let your voice be heard on voting day. ~ GOD BLESS

It appears that the prozac recommended for someone else, should indeed be use by November162000 as well. It amazes me how people look at politics with such jaded eyes. The facts are the facts no matter what. The Bush administration has definately failed this country, it does not take a rocket scientist to be aware of that fact. However, for November162000 to make the statement refering to Sen. Obama as "your boy" speaks volumes. Why not use his name instead of "your boy"? CHANGE has to happen in so many ways not just in referance to Sen. Obama's campaign. My opinion is to vote how you want to vote, because that is your right to do so. However, do not attempt to make a suggestion to demean someone's character. No one has it all figured out November162000, but it is hard to deny the facts that were stated by armybnu333. Times are hard for everyone right now. When you look at the pros and cons of both candidates for President of the United States of America, make a choice base on your beliefs. For myself, I want CHANGE and Sen. Obama, in my opinion, offers "CHANGE I CAN BELIEVE IN." Having said that, I will end with "YES WE CAN!!!" I am just onevoice trying to be heard. ~ God Bless

Again, it is good to see that law enforcement is working to eliminate the illegal sale of drugs within the City of Clanton. I am a resident of Clanton and was born, raised, and still live in the West End Community. Having read some of the comments posted, I had to make a statement. Yes, people do ride around and block the streets, which is nothing new. Yes, there are drug dealers who sell drugs on a regular basis in front of homes in which they do not live, which is nothing new. All of this has been going on for years and years and is nothing new. For those who do not want to visit home due to the environment in the community, they should think hard about whether or not they at one time rode around hittin' blocks and blocked the roadway a time or two. I know that I have been guilty of that one myself. Also, there are several people from generation to generation who are products of West End and have gone on to do great things. There are also people who stayed in the community who do positive things within West End. Yes, Lenard Rogers, has come back "HOME" and is doing a great job with the youth baseball league. However, he is not doing this task alone. There are people who help out that some may consider to be a problem for the community, but when it comes to the kids... everyone comes together. That is what community is all about. It is not about calling out all of the bad issues, but shining a light on the good as well. Although the fight against drugs rages on.... this is a problem that will exist for years to come. The community must come together and work together to fight against drugs with law enforcement. Instead of hating to come "HOME"... come home from time to time to be a part of the solution and give back. This is not a slight against anyone, but in order for change to happen we must all come together on one accord. I am just "onevoice" trying to be heard. ~ God Bless!
