Lorie I was very saddened to hear of your loss. The time we spent together at her house in Jemison is one of my fondest memories. She was a sweet, funny lady.

I know that Tennis is one of the very least recognized sports in Chilton County, however, both Jemison High School and Clanton High School have Tennis Teams. They compete with other schools and both have a pretty good record, or did a year or so ago. Since JHS doesn't have their own courts, they use the ones at the city park. Also, more people are interested than you would think. Even if a new tennis court was not added to the park, an upgrade to the ones that are there would be nice.

My sister was there as a vendor and she didn't do well and as of right now has decided not to return, but time will tell.

This is a most unfortunate situation and I will be praying for this family, but most of all I will be praying for this little girl. A little over 30 years ago, in a small town called Jemison, I was the abused and no one in authority would believe me, not the school, not the police, nobody. The abuser was contacted by authorities and he told them that the allegations were false and that was that. I was even told by the police, that an adult would have to make the accusations before they would do anything. For 13 years of my life I was abused and nobody would come to my rescue.

I don't know this man or this family, but believe me, the devil can and does have a face and a name that you trust. Just because someone is a fine up standing citizen does not mean they are not capable of being an abuser of their children, other children, their spouse, etc.

If this child was abused, she will face struggles the rest of her life. But with God's help, she will become a survivor. He will trade beauty for ashes. If the accusations are untrue, God will do the same for the father.

KW, I'm not complaining about living on the dirt road, it was my choice. But people tend to forget, just like the people who live on paved roads, my husband and I pay taxes in this county. To be honest, I really don't care about it being paved, but I would like for it to stay passable, even if they just come out and fix the 2 places on 209 that have ruts from the last rain.

There is probably a higher number of these cases because kids are becoming more educated at a younger age. In the past there have been cases where child sexual abuse was swept under the rug or not investigated as a serious crime. My complaints, when I had spurts of courage to ask for help, in particular, were ignored and at one time I was told by a police officer that I could not file a complaint against my abuser because I was a minor. Thank God times have changed. Another thing to remember is that most of the time, children are abused by people who are supposed to love and take care of them, and they are brainwashed into thinking that the abuse is normal and this treatment occurs in all families.

County Road 209 in Jemison has been scraped more this summer than it has been in the 10 years I've lived there. However, if the person doing the scraping would trench the ditches we wouldn't have drainage tracks at least 5 inches deep across the road. It's also funny how every dirt road around us has been paved but not 209. My neighbor a few houses down was told that it's because we haven't been loud enough with our complaints.

Uniforms have been great, although I didn't like the idea at first. My daughter knows what she is wearing everyday of the week. You really only have to purchase 3 uniforms, especially if you wash clothes everyday. You can purchase the pants and shirts at Penney's, Sears, Walmart or most any other stores at a reasonable price.

Again, as a parent of a child at JHS, I am very concerned.

Last night my child told me that she was told that they are allowing the student to return to school on Friday and will be allowed to come to school next week to take finals. I was also advised by my child that a teacher at the school told the students in her class to QUIT talking about the situation. Wow, that's a great way to ease their minds and make them feel safe! Just sweep it under the rug and ignore the way students feel is the apparent way the school is handling the other students concerns/fears.

I don't know this student, and was asking rhetorical questions in my previous statements. I hope he gets the attention/help that he needs. However, my priority is my daughter and her safety. For the school and the school boards sake, I hope the student is patted down before entering the school if what my daughter was told is true.

I have several friends that are teachers and at times it's all they can do to teach class because of the bad behaviour of some students. It is not their responsibility to raise your children, people. My kids are far from perfect but my oldest 2 knew that if they misbehaved at school and I found out about it, I would be walking in the school and whipping their butt in front of God and everybody, I didn't care how old they were. The same goes for my youngest.

One last thing and I'm through with this. Parents can raise their children in a christian home, with good morals and both parents in the house, but children choose their own path and it is not always the right one. You cannot blame the parents for their kids choices. I know, been there, done that, got the T-Shirt and wrote the book.
