If we are going to talk "what if's", what if they had not chased and stopped this criminal and the next place he robbed he shot the clerk or decided to break into your house while you were sleeping? Believe it or not, these officers do use judgement and know when to call off a chase. Are bad decisions made, well of course. I would rather see an attempt made to get a criminal off the street than nothing done at all. And as it has already been said, thank goodness nobody was injured especially an innocent bystander, but there is one less criminal for the public to worry about because these officers did their jobs.

These two guys are guilty and deserve everyday that they get. After reading the article it said that the lawyers contend that the younger brother shot the victim and I'll bet now the younger brother's lawyers will contend that the older brother pulled the trigger. No matter who actually pulled the trigger these two guys were in the act together and should both get the maximum sentence. Unfortunately mrjones alot of convicts find the Lord when they go to jail but forget to take him with them when they get out of jail.

November, nobody "LET HIM GO". He had a bond and made that bond. Should he have had a bond, maybe not. Should anyone have signed the bond definately not. But nobody "let him go". And by the way, the people that work at the jail don't want "attaboys" but they do not deserve to be blamed for everything that happens. They do a job that most people won't or can't do and the only time anyone speaks of the jail is when they have something bad to say. All I am saying is cut them some slack. Walk a mile in their shoes before you are so quick to blame them. Am I partial to the jail employees, yes. If you think they are doing such a bad job, fill out an application go to work there. Maybe you can do everything perfectly with little funding and manpower.

Still everyone wants to blame everybody except the person that signed the bond. The criminal did not get out on his own. He wasn't allowed to sign his own bond. Find out who signed the bond and hold them responsible. I'm glad to see someone post a comment about the overwhelming amount of work that these offices handle. And the numbers that were posted about what goes throught this Circuit Clerks office and the District Judges office, the jail also handles these criminals and the criminals from the 5 municipalities in the county. Yes in this case it happens to be on a bigger idiot than most and it made the paper, but mistakes happen and everyone shouldn't be ready to form a lynch mob and storm the courthouse steps. This idiot WILL be caught or he will get out of Chilton County in which case he will be caught somewhere else and the sheriff's dept will go get him.

I am glad that everyone has this forum to voice their opinion about the things that are going on in our county. That being said, your oppinion would carry alot more weight if you only knew what you were talking about. Some of you need to really find out how the bonding process works. As far as any judge allowing this person to make bond, unless a motion for bond revocation is brought before them, they don't even know the person has been arrested most times until arrestee is placed on a docket. As far as the jail making a mistake, some of you need to go spend a day or better yet a weekend night with the officers that work there and you might have a greater appreciation for the job that they do. Am I saying that they don't make mistakes, no by no means. These officers are serving in a position that gets them nothing but ridicule from people who do not know what they do. Now do I think this person should be out on bond, no and I think that this will not be a problem again once he is arrested this time. Hopefully that will happen before this idiot does something else stupid. It is also strange to me how everyone is so quick to blame everyone but the criminal. It's the judges fault for letting him have a bond, it's the jails fault for letting him make bond. When does the fault fall on the criminal or better yet the people who signed the bond. Let's make them accountable for the person being out. The criminal could have had a $5 bond, but if nobody signed it he would still be in jail. The person that made the statement about holding a bar owner responsible for a drunk driver leaving his bar hit the nail on the head. Instead of blaming the judges, the jail, the sheriff, the cheif of police or anybody else in law enforcement, lets lay blame where blame belongs with the person who signed the bond. If they had not signed the bond, the criminal would still be in jail. Ponder that for a while.

I would like to thank Ms. Clements for applying for the grant and seeing it through. As a parent of one of the Elementary School's students, I am glad to have a good snack provided for the students. My daughter too is a very very picky eater so we pack her lunch almost everyday, but she does enjoy the fruit snacks. Thanks again to Ms. Clements and the Board of Education for the work on the grant.

If anyone is interested in seeing where the Pace subject is, you can go to the Alabama Dept of Corrections website and go to inmate search and find anyone incarcerated in the state prison system and when their estimated release date is. As far as these criminals, this is only going to get worse. These criminals are getting braver and more desperate each and every day. I heard a person say one time that criminals are not as brave if they don't know who is carrying guns. Don't bash me just yet, I don't think that we should go back to the old west where everyone wore a gun openly and where there was such thing as a "legal" fight. That being said though, I do think that people should be more aware of their surroundings and watch people. You would be suprised at what you might pick up on if you watch people's behaviors. When everyone gets tired of these criminals harming them and stealing from them, they will support law enforcement and give them the support that they deserve. I am a firm believer in stricter laws and more people to enforce them. I also believe that there is a need for more officers to patrol and maybe just maybe, the increased presence of these officers will make these criminals think twice before breaking the law. I also think that the punishment for these crimes should be just that: PUNISHMENT.

All I have to say about this situation is that everyone that is saying something bad about the training and about these guys putting their lives on the line everyday will be glad they do, heaven forbid you ever need them. Those of you who are criticizing the sheriff's department for training have no idea what these guys go through on a daily basis and the risks that these guys take to serve and protect the public. Everyone keeps talking about money and believe me the economy problems has hit everyone, but this will only make criminals more desperate and more brazen and bold. I'm glad to know that our law enforcement officers are doing what they can to be prepared for any situation that can happen. When it comes to criminals and crime it is not a matter of "if" it is a matter of "when"! It sounds if there are people in this county that want the law enforcement officers to sit at a desk and do nothing until something happens and that is one of the problems with this town and county. There are too many people that want to be reactive instead of proactive. When we have a bank robbery situation and we will sooner or later, I'm glad to know that these guys do have some idea of how they will react and not just be relying on what they read in a book. The Chilton County area is growing whether we want it to or not and it won't just be fine upstanding citizens that are moving in. BE PREPARED!

I also bet if there is some checking done there will be some people that participated in this training that were not paid for their time!

At least you are being given a heads up and not being called at 11:30 to pick your children up at noon. I'm glad the decision was made when it was now arrangements can be made. I know that it was a hard decision to make that early and the potential is there to have made the wrong decision or look like a superstar, only time will tell. As for me, I think Mr. Moore and his staff are being pretty considerate by making the decision as early as they did.
