Yes, SEC or Bust,
I caught a Coral Snake that was about 10 inches long just last year. It was only the 2nd one I have seen in my 53 yrs. on Earth. I was actually looking for speckled Mud Puppies, and when I turned over an old rotten log, there it was. Of all times to be without my camera. I fooled around with it for a little bit, and just put him/ her back where I found it. It never once even opened it's mouth and was very docile. Funny how a snake that's as deadly as a Cobra would be like that, huh?

Snakes always have, and always will have a bad reputation just because they are snakes. Don't fear snakes, respect them. Snakes do far more good for this world than they do harm,

I remember when people used to ask the admins. of Al.com for a Chilton County forum to air out their opinions. Looks like we got one of our own going on here. This is great. Come here to read the banter, and get the local news on the side. lol

Here is a website link for anyone that might want to gain a bit of knowledge on snakes.

Tim, you are right when you say that snakes have a place and a purpose here. The reason snakes have such a bad rep is because people like our grandparents and their parents taught their kids that the only good snake is a dead snake. I have been catching snakes since I was a child. Got my butt tore up many times over snakes, but I still find them one of nature's prettiest creations. When I find a snake on the road or in the woods around Maplesville, I generally catch it and put it in a cooler that I carry with me for just that reason. I take it home and photograph it, document where I found it, then take it off somewhere miles from any residences, and turn it loose. Just last week I caught a 3 1/2 ft. Timber Rattler with 8 and a button. He never even coiled up on me, and didn't start rattling until I started my truck. I let it crawl around the back yard while I shot some photos, then I took it off and set it free. If people would educate themselves on snakes, they might get some idea as to how much they benefit us in the long run. But I'm sure that 99.9% of the public feel they have all the education they will ever need on snakes already. So if you are driving down the road and come up on some danged fool catching a snake, or just getting it off the road so the next driver by won't run over it, it's probably gonna be me.

I'm just glad I have tons of photos taken at Dega and Atlanta before the great Bobby Allison was involved in the unfortunate accident 10 rows in front of me that put an end to Nascar racing as all of us older fans remember it. There will never be another race where a driver can come from almost 5 miles behind, to win, as my man Awesome Bill Elliott did at Dega. He was da bomb in that Melling T-Bird. Those were the days. Back then at Dega, after the first 2 or 3 laps, you could pretty much forget about carrying on a conversation because the cars were so strung out on the track, there was never a quiet moment until the caution came out. Now you can talk normally for about 50 seconds, because of the way they are all bunched up in a pack. To me, that just isn't as much fun to watch. Used to be,"race what you brung", as long as it passed safety regs and you could pay the entry fee. Buddy Baker, Cale, Bill Elliott, Bobby, The King, Motormouth Darrell Waltrip, Dale Sr., Harry Gantt, the guy that stole the pace car, all of you are the ones that used to make it a good reason to go and fight the traffic and the crowds. It'll never be the same. And to get back on the subject at hand, Kyle owned the guitar as soon as he took the checkers, but being a guitar player myself, I thought he showed his a$$ in victory lane. Thanks for letting me vent a bit. And November, I too saw Marty Robbins race a few times. He wasn't scared to get in there and mix it up, was he?

Carson was the undisputed King, and Leno fell right in there like he was born for the job. Letterman has always been the most selfish and arrogant host on the tube. He will hardly let his guests get a word in edgewise. Don't care much for Conan.

I hear ya TLS,
To be such a young person, you seem to be mature beyond your years. Let me tell you, that cheese that they used to hand out back in the 60's was the real deal.

KW, I was wondering the same thing. I was camping on Mulberry Creek Sat. night, when my phone rang at about 2am. It was my wife calling to inform me of this wonderful man's passing. I thought for sure that the Advertiser would run a story on him. He was a very good friend of mine, and I will miss him and his unique humor and wit more than anyone knows. A lot of the general public will wonder what happened to that man we used to listen to on our scanner. Well folks, you won't be hearing him anymore, but you can bet that he will be alive and well in the hearts of all of us that knew and loved him. R.I.P.
