kitty: All of the things that you mention that would be nice to have here, save the seafood restaurant and casino, have already come to, and left, Clanton. In the case if movie theaters, at least five times.
I don't think it's a given that our property values would go up, but I think you could bet your next paycheck that your property TAX would go up.

" It is up to us to find a plan that works — a plan that doesn’t let outsiders ruin the kind of place we want Chilton County to be..." We gave that up when the County joind the Regional Planning Commission, or whatever it's called. They are the folks that think they know what we want and need better than we do. If our county and city leaders were concerned about what's best for us and not "letting outsiders ruin the kind of place we want Chilton County to be", then they would take steps to prevent or greatly restrict this "growth" and so-called "progress". Growth does NOT have to be inevitable. But, it will be because the conventional thinking these days is that you simply MUST have shopping malls at every exit of the interstate along with countless places to fill your pie hole, never mind that in most cases, according to the latest 'fattest state' survey, most of the citizens here are already obese or morbidly so.

heavensent: "A sin is a sin no matter how big or small it is. " I find it VERY hard to believe that God doesn't see any difference between murder and say... shoplifting. If that's the case then there's no difference between what Adolf Hitler did and someone who tells a white lie.
I don't know nor care about the particulars in this case, but it seems that we would have all been better off, and saved a lot of money, if these folks had stood in a circle facing each other before they started the shooting match. It doesn't sound like any of them were on their way to Sunday School.

kw: I don't purchase Alagasco's product either, but not because I think they are evil, greedy profit pigs. I just prefer propane and electric utilities. But, I sure do like the profit they help me make!
alive: I don't think you're a socialist, if you are it's not expressed in your comment. I agree with your comment, mostly. I would just interject that many, maybe even most, large (even small) companies and corporations donate varying amounts of their profits and services to various charities. Most just don't advertise it. Some do, but most just want to help out without trying to pat themselves on their back which, I think, is the way it should be, just go quietly about doing good things for folks without expecting people to praise you for it. BUT, their reason for going into business in the first place was to be successful and make a profit, and I'm sure that their hope and goal was to make a LARGE profit. At least I hope that's the goal of the companies that I'm invested in.

kitty: I didn't say that everything is going great for me (though most things are), I'm just not complaining about the things that aren't, nor blaming them on anyone else.
I hope you have a wonderful day, too. Thanks! :)

kw: Do large companies, like the gas company, invest billions of dollars on infrastructure to enable them to be able to deliver a product, deserve to only make a profit that YOU decide is "reasonable"? I'm not saying that there's not some greed involved because there is, but, I'm glad that the greedy sobs have provided us with the services that have made life better. If they hadn't, who would have? If you don't like the profits that a company makes, then don't buy any product that they sell. And don't forget, these greedy sobs are paying, in most cases, the salaries of union people who you seem to think are the only people who deserve a job. As for me, I hope they keep right on making good profits because it just makes me a little wealthier. I have never understood why people get so upset over large profits of companies, just invest in them and reap some of that profit for yourself, that's what I do. Keep it coming.
kitty: "I was always told that if you work hard you can make a good life for yourself, but, I don't think thats true anymore." Do you have a bad life? And if you do, whose fault is it? Alagasco? Alabama Power? Would your life be better if there were no companies that made a profit, or only made a profit that you and Steve thinks is "reasonable"?

Sounds like he's got a lifter knockin', or maybe he's about to sling a rod.

That was a fairly ridiculous non-answer.

So, what is the speed limit for trains, and how fast do you know for a fact that they go through Thorsby on that straight-away that goes for miles? Trains can't go at whatever speed they want to, they have to go at a prescribed speed. They have to be at certain places at certain times. If they aren't they will have a wreck with another train down the line that IS where it's supposed to be. Now, read your last sentence back to yourself very slowly a few times and then take a guess as to who it is that needs to grow up. The fact remains that trains WILL NOT go off the track and run you down. They will, however, run your butt over if you cross in front of one. And, speeding or not, if you stop, look, and LISTEN, you will know that the train is there. It would be up to you at that point as to whether you wanted to get run over, or if you wanted to just sit and wait it out.

jeralyn4313: " ...we (the decent people) know who they are and that they are getting away with criminal crimes!" I'm a fairly decent person and I don't know who these informants are. Why don't you go ahead and fill us in? Give us details about the drugs that the police have been "feeding" them. And, how is it that you seem to know so much about drug dealing? If you're that close to it, maybe you need to make some changes? Come on, fill us in, maybe YOU can help clean up Clanton.
