THORSBY, to have a board rep from each district would be nice but that would mean there'd have to be districts and those are something we do not have here.

likeit, the boe bought land for a new thorsby school some time ago but for some reason the land they selected is outside the town limits, appears to have no chance of being annexed in anytime soon, and has no infrastructure, i.e., water/sewer and since it is outside the town limits odds of them getting it are slim to none. maybe this will give you some more insight on their decision making process. and if i read the story right if they shift some grades around they, ces, will not need the add'l classrooms. seems they have no problem bumping jhs down a grade to make it 10-12 but cannot seem to do the same in clanton.

Where did the altercation take place?? On the field? If they were on the field, shame on them, that is not the place for fans/spectators, only if they were the parent of a downed player did they need to even come out of the stands.

On Schools tighten belts for 2010

Likeit, when push comes to shove how much of that fundraiser (cookie dough, wrapping paper, magazines)money actually gets into the school? There is waste that can be cut from the system, starting at the board and working its way down, how much does it cost to run buses into Jemison neighborhoods to turn around and take those students to Thorsby? I have two in the County school system and I am acutely aware of what all is lacking in the classroom but bringing home fundraiser after fundraiser is not the answer, in my opinion.

This is a letter to the editor, pure opinion, not written by anyone on the CA staff.

On Priorities need reevaluation

I think that once the other principals do the math and figure out that one of their peers would be going from one of the largest campuses in the County to one of the smallest, less than 500 students, and a portion of those attend Career Tech on a daily basis, for the same pay he was receiving before the move, there just might be a change in this plan. None of their proposed plan makes fiscal sense, why add administration costs when you do not have too, just move the JMS admin and most of the staff over to the new school. Unless, of course there is someone that knows someone that knows someone that would like to be prinicpal, then all common sense is lost.

On Grade levels picked for new Jemison school

This decision by the Board does not seem to be well thought out at all and odds are they did not discuss any of this with the principals of any of the schools other than JHS. Why not use the new school for 5 - 7, 8th be absorbed by JHS. that way you could move the JMS library to the new one and demolish that sorry excuse of a gym at JMS. Again, this is not what Mr. Thompson wants so that will never happen. The entire layout of the new school shows no forethought at all, pretty much just one way in and out, so I do not know why any of the follow up is shocking me.

not all executive sessions are called by the commissioners most are called by dept heads to discuss everything from good name and character to pending legal matters. the commissioners seem to have excellent legal representation and i feel confident they are doing everything within the letter of the law.
