I run my water through a water filter at the faucet, no bottles to buy or dispose of.

A few years ago I bought into the practice of buying gallons of drinking water. I usually would buy 8 or 10 gallons when I went to the store. Not anymore. It was just too much work transporting that much weight and finding a place to store it. In November of 2003 I purchased a "PUR" water pitcher with a three stage replaceable filter and a spigot to get the water out of it. This makes the tap water taste much better and it's much cheaper than buying all that bottled water. It's kept in the "fridge" so the water is cold. I still buy a little bottled water to take to work and such for convenience but not much. Just my .02 worth.

If I don't run the water through the filter, and I don't drink all of the water right away, it get a metal aftertaste. I also, don't have metal pipes.

Tap water is analysed and monitored for bacteria and a world of exotic chemicals including insecticides. Bottles water is not held to the same standards. You are deceiving yourself if you assume bottled water is more pure than tap water.

The water in this area is an issue. Ours comes from Lake Mitchel. It tasted like lake water, so we had an Ozone Pure water system installed. The water department adds the chemicals and the ozone filter takes it out. The water is very good after that. The system is expensive, but what we drink is pure water.

My water is supplied by the City of Clanton and tastes MUCH better than ANY bottled water that I have ever had anywhere. It's always clear, unless there has been some water line maintenance in the area, but you'll have that from time to time. I drink it straight from the refridgerator, unfiltered, right out of a Dasani bottle that I poured out and refilled from the tap.

Dasani is tap water. So is Aquafina. I think most people buy bottled water because it's cold and portable (and not filled with sugar or artificial sweeteners - there's a poll for you, which is worse), not because they are afraid of tap water. There are some brands that I can tell a difference in, particularly the more expensive brands like Fiji and Icelandic - which are so pure they barely have any taste.

You want to really taste your water, drink it a room temperature. You will find that at room temperature most bottled waters have a variety of flavors, mostly plastic or petroleum derived from sitting in plastic bottles.

When I lived in the Clanton City Limits about 18 years ago, the water sometimes tasted like the river. We used/drank it anyway. I now have Chilton Water Authority and its pretty good. We drink it right out of the tap too.

Apparently, the water is harmless - except for glowing in the dark a little at night - We're fine. ☺
