Mims, Caton endorse Ward

Published Wednesday, February 3, 2010

A pair of Chilton County commissioners voiced their support of an Alabaster state representative who is vying for a seat on the Alabama Senate.

Chilton County Commission Chairman Tim Mims and Vice Chairman Allen Caton endorsed Rep. Cam Ward, R-Alabaster, Feb. 2.

In his endorsement, Mims said he believed Ward to be a man of “honor and integrity,” and urged area residents to vote for the state representative in his quest for the District 14 Senate seat.

“I have gotten to know Cam Ward and find him to be a man of honor, integrity and results for his House district,” Mims said. “I will be supporting his candidacy for the Alabama Senate, and urge my constituents to do likewise.”

Caton said Ward has worked “tirelessly” for those in Central Alabama.

“Cam Ward exemplifies what public service should be about,” Caton said. “He works tirelessly for the citizens of his House district, and I can think of no one better suited to serve in the Alabama Senate.”

Ward voiced gratitude for the pair of Chilton County endorsements, saying he was looking forward to representing the county, along with Shelby, Bibb and Jefferson counties, if elected to the Senate.

“I am grateful to Chairman Mims and Commissioner Caton for their endorsement of my campaign for the Senate,” Ward said. “I am looking forward to representing them and all of Chilton County if elected to the Alabama Senate.”

Endorsements have never impressed nor have they ever influenced my vote. I prefer to study the individual and their past actions to determine who I will vote for. I also refuse to EVER vote a straight party ticket, instead voting for whom I feel is the best choice without regard for whose banner they fly.

I might would of voted for the guy but now with the endorsement of two commissioners, I do not believe I will vote for him now.

The county commmission is worthless in my mind so why would I want to vote for anyone they would recommend?

I agree with you Phil. I can do my own thinking and do not need to know what politicians think about another politician. I, too, will never mark my ballot for a straight party vote. In my opinion, voting for a party is ridiculous. To me it shows one of three things: (1) Inability to research and think for yourself, or, (2) you're an idealogue, or, (3) you're lazy. If it happens that everyone that you vote for turns out to be of the same party, that's fine, but selling your soul to a party, EITHER major party, doesn't show me anything good. But, to each his/her own, as they say.

I will say this about Ward, he donated the funds to our cemetery group to buy a podium. I was more than a bit shocked at the prices for even a simple podium and was hoping someone might have a used one to donate. So asked for one on Freecycle and he saw the post and offered to send the funds to purchase a new one. Which he promptly did.
