Thanks to those that made En Fuego possible

Published Friday, September 4, 2009

Dear Editor,

I just want to say thanks to The Clanton Advertiser for all of your stories over the years. Scott Mims has always been very kind and done a very good job covering En Fuego accurately for the people of Chilton County.

We have had injuries in the past, also, but they just weren’t made public.

This is an area we intend on improving in if we possibly can. We don’t promote or condone “body surfing” nor do we consider it a form of worship, and I doubt the people brave enough to do it do either. It is merely kids having fun after the message had been brought and lives had already been saved. Our board will put much thought and prayer into how to handle this in the future.

We are very thankful no one was seriously injured. We are very proud of our volunteer staff that helped with all aspects of making En Fuego a success, especially the volunteer firemen, sheriff’s department and Alabama EMA representatives.

However, we could use more help from adults to try to cut down on the many issues that are going to happen when you have that many kids in a horse pasture without enough youth leaders.

Thanks to all of the businesses and people that believe in this event and support this event financially. Without you guys, those 318 decisions would not have been made.

– Johnny Giles, En Fuego co-founder

Again, I support the positive aspects, just be aware that lawsuits have been brought with much less cause, and lack of action creates negligence. The actions of those few tend to distort the intent and actions of the majority, and creates a doubt, were those decisions made based on conviction or emotion? Only they and the Lord knows, and I pray it was out of conviction.

Holding the event is not enough,Good intentions is not enough, controlling the activity is required.

Having said that, our thoughts and prayers go with you that the right decisions be made, and the event continoues to be successful.
