CCHS close again against one of state’s best
Published Saturday, October 31, 2009
Every loss is difficult, but Chilton County’s fall to neighboring Bibb County on Friday was especially disheartening.
The Tigers had two possessions inside Bibb County’s 5-yard line that produced no points in the 32-26 loss to one of Class 4A’s best teams.

Henley held up: Chilton County receiver T.J. Henley runs for yardage after catching a pass against Bibb County on Friday.
Chilton County got on the scoreboard first with a pass from Taylor Hughes to T.J. Henley.
Bibb County then answered with a 2-yard drive by Jaquail Rutledge. A successful 2-point conversion put the Choctaws up, 8-7.
The Tigers responded with a nice drive, capped by a 1-yard pass from Hughes to Henley again. The home team led 13-8 with 20 seconds to go before halftime.
Chilton County wouldn’t go into the locker rooms with the lead.
Rutledge rumbled down the field for 64 yards to give Bibb County a 16-13 halftime edge.
After the break, Hughes lead Chilton County down the field, converting a 4th-and-1 in the process, only to fumble the ball on the 4-yard-line.
Bibb County then widened the lead with a 63-yard pass to Kannon Johnston to start the fourth quarter.
Chilton County still had plenty of fight: Hughes scored on a run to draw the home team closer, 24-19.
But Rutledge broke loose again, this time from 55 yards out, to give the Choctaws their widest lead of the night, 32-19 with 6:05 to go.
The Tigers responded by marching down the field to the 5-yard-line again but was shut out of the end zone after Hughes was sacked for a 10-yard-loss.
The game seemed over, but Chilton County rattled the Choctaw crowd with a 55-yard touchdown pass from Hughes to Chris Felder. A successful PAT put the game at 32-26.
Chilton County tried for the onside kick and got a good bounce but wasn’t able to come down with the ball. Two snaps later, and Bibb County won.

getting beat by 13 points with 6 minutest to play is not what i would call a close game.. sure they cut it to 6 to end the game but too little too late.. almost beating these teams every week will not propel you to a championship level.. you must win close games in order to accomplish that feat.. it is sickening that a school as big as CCHS never has a football program that competes year in and year out.. I mean even Isabella loses close games and even has a great season every 4 or 5 years.. CCHS loses every year!!!
