Lori Martin Peoples speaks to a crowd at Durbin Farms Market about her battle against breast cancer.
Peoples was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 34, about 10 years younger than the age when her grandmother was diagnosed.
She said early detection is vital.
“My child will start getting checked at 24,” Peoples said, adding that her family supports Relay for Life and the Breast Cancer Foundation.
“The biggest thing I would say is trust in the Lord and don’t give up,” she told those in attendance.
Half of the proceeds from the event went to the American Cancer Society for breast cancer awareness and research.

Once a person has recovered from breast cancer getting checked regular is essential. My mother, Alphire { Casey } Easterling had recovered from breast cancer but after 5 years she thought she was free of cancer for good. She skipped some checkups and it became too late. We lost her 12 years after being diagnosed. Please get checkups on time.
