Health Dept. gets H1N1 shots
Published Tuesday, October 27, 2009
The Chilton County Health Department will hold its first clinic for H1N1 vaccine today, Wednesday, Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Clinic Supervisor Ludean Hicks said the department received 500 doses of the vaccine in shot form, which are available initially only to high-risk patients.
“We probably don’t have quite 500 now, but we’ll give it until it’s gone,” Hicks said. “We should be getting in some more by the end of this month.”
Another clinic is planned for next Wednesday, Nov. 4 from 1-4 p.m. If there are still shots remaining after the second scheduled clinic, Hicks said any future clinics will be announced at a later date.
High-risk patients include pregnant women; children 6 months through 4 years old; parents, siblings and caregivers of children less than 6 months old; children 5 to 18 years old who have underlying medical conditions; and health care workers.
Alabama and the nation are experiencing significant delays in the amount of H1N1 influenza vaccine received. Vaccine supply is short for both private providers and health departments.
The number of doses sent to each county health department has been allocated based on population.
The public can find clinic dates, times and locations at www.adph.org. Information is also available by calling the health department’s toll-free hotline at 877-377-7285 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The Chilton County Health Department may be reached directly at 755-1287.

I thank the CA for informing the public about the vaccine being available today. Did I miss the prior story about the projected date for this vaccination? I wonder when did the health department receive the drug? Must have been yesterday due to the paper running the story today. if 500 units was received why is the number less now? Let me guess, the people that are employed there and their family members was first? Regardless, its good news for the citizens that want this injection.

Hi, penandpaper!
How ya been?
The article does say that health care workers are among the first to receive the vaccination along with pregnant women; children 6 months through 4 years old; parents, siblings and caregivers of children less than 6 months old and children 5 to 18 years old who have underlying medical conditions. So, they most likely got theirs out of the way.
I hope the vaccine is safe.

According to the government it's quite safe. Evidently, the virus itself isn't really that bad either, as long as you don't fall into certain high-risk groups, and even then it's no more dangerous than seasonal flu. Of course, listening to the media one would have reason to believe that it's the worst thing since the plague. I wonder what sort of hysteria we'd see if we had a for-real pandemic on our hands.

I had heard that About 40 children and about 430 adults have died from H1N1 influenza. According to USA Today 67% of the children had high risk medical conditions.
I'm sure it is a much bigger deal if it is one of your own loved ones that dies from it.

This is like the West Nile virus a couple of years ago. Remember the hype? Yup, it faded out. Remember the fear that EBOLA was going to spread to the USA? Remember "Africanized KILLER BEES"? The only Killer Beez I have seen, is the comedian at the Comedy Club. Remember Y2K? Remember the BIRD FLU? What's next? The cat and dog flu? The news media made all of these, perceived, "threats", seem like Armageddon! H1N1, a fancy scientific name for ANOTHER strain of the flu. It's a dadgum virus. They exist, and thrive all around us. I nearly died two years ago from an "intestinal parasite". Ended up in ICU at UAB Highlands for several days after being found lying in a road by a fisherman on the Black Warrior River. Did I panic everytime I opened my mouth? NO! There were several cases of this SAME diagnosis in Central Alabama over the last 3 years. Do viruses, bacteria, bugs, colds, etc change my daily rountine, or cause me to "RUSH" to spend money on antidotes? NOPE! I trust in God, love my family, and live! This dang Porky Pig Cold is another way for pharmaceutical companies to dupe THIS administration/government into GIVING them BILLONS of dollars for a "shield". What a JOKE! And if one of my family members dies from this vogue virus, yes we will mourne. But, NOBODY lives forever! Not on Earth, anyway. And my WHOLE family has a glorious eternal home in the future!

A local Doc in town had the vaccine 2 weeks ago. You think the Health Dept would of gotten more shots and sooner.

A local Doc had the H1N1 flu shots? Or the regular Flu shots? I seriously doubt a local doctor in Clanton, Al had the H1N1 shots when major hospitals like Cedar-Sinai, UAB, and Johns-Hopkins couldn't get it until this week. Unless that local doctor "claimed" it was H1N1 vaccines and billed Medicare/Medicaid or private insurance for, what was REALLY something else. A doctor in Clanton wouldn't do that....Just like they wouldn't give shots in a barn at their own residence, dispense prescriptions from their driveway/garage, or treat your dog, cat, goats, cows and horses after giving you shots. I have lived in Clanton for 95% of my 40 plus years on earth. And I have witnessed all of the above incidents. I had a fishook removed from my hand by one doctor, when I was 7 years old, while sitting on the tailgate of my dad's pickup, while parked under a shadetree in the Negro parking section of the doctor's parking lot.
False claims about having/giving a, VERY NEW AND UNTESTED, vaccine does NOT surprise me. If the person is actually given something, no more than saline, (a placebo), and contracts the H1N1 virus, the excuse/defense will be, "it was rushed to the public, untested, and there IS a margin of failure".
But Clanton is too HONEST of a place for healthcare fraud by physicians. YEAH RIGHT!

Now Steven, do you think I would do something like that. lol
Saw your comment and had to laugh. Yes, I did get it two weeks ago. 700 shots for our practice. I ordered on the first day you could order. Sooo funny. Come see me

Oh Steven, now you in for it. Sounds like your a candidate for the real H1N1 shot! Good thing too...we'd hate to loose your interesting comments and perspective on these important issues. LOL

Thanks Doc. You know I had to do that! Got an appt in Nov to see you. Besides, your garage is 10 times larger and cleaner than those old barns I was speaking of! :)

OOOWWWWWWUUUUCCCCHHH!!! I think I might send a placebo Steve to you instead! LOL! Besides, I think EVERY shot is ice cold! I still do the crying part, but that's because at 4 years old, I learned the nurses would hold my hand, hug, me and kiss me on the forehead. Still works, sometimes. But I am afraid Doc, YOU might be administering this dose, along with a dose of butt chewing this trip. LOL! Thanks, again for a professional input.
Seriously, it's input, like yours, that dispels myth about, what really is, a serious issue. Thank you.

I am also a health care professional, but when I went to get my H1N1 my doctor did not recommend it. Dr. Price what is your input.

Yeah, I use the commas to depict a voice fluctuation. Often times the commas are the root of my sarcasm. Glad you know me well enough to know the difference. Too bad for you, though. You may lose a couple of patients now that they know you are my Doc. LOL!

I use CAPITAL LETTERS to depict voice inflection. I just screamed at you.
No comment on other Doc's recommendations. Not here to judge, just to let Graves know that "Cedar-Sinai, UAB, and Johns-Hopkins" didnt beat Clanton to the punch.

Thank you Doc. By the way did you get the H1N1? KW Clanton does not beat third world countries at much, but I guess they won this time, lol.

I take the special "Doctor Pill" that has been issued to US MD's for years. We dont get sick, don't require antibiotics, and never take vaccinations. Perk, I guess.
Its been fun, but time to go to youth football practice.!!

Guess I have to do some research on this special Doc pill.

I know Dr. Dy's office has had the H1N1 nasal mist for about four weeks.
Hey, Steve Graves,
I agree the whole frenzy is way overhyped and fear-mongered, but the youngin's bodies probably have not encountered this particular bug.
While the actual flu itself may not be so bad, the secondary infections that this bug seems to open you up for, are what's making people sick or even killing them.
On top of that, they don't necessarily have to be young people, if by happenstance, you haven't been exposed to this particular strain, through the years, then you're at risk of catching it, and if the symptoms are mild, a person my think nothing of going to the doctor, while the virus is ravaging your immune system.
I caught it two weeks before the vaccine was available.
It was typed H1N1 positive by the state lab.
I went in to the doctor, that morning, because I felt run down and had a low fever. No big deal - I have recurrent mono, and I figured it was paying me a little visit.
Imagine my surprise when the flu test came up positive.
I didn't believe it and had to look at the test strip, myself.
So - I would suppose that I have been exposed to "the pig", before, because my symptoms never got any worse, and I was fine in 36 hours.
Your mileage may vary...go get vaccinated, y'all.
It won't kill you, no matter what Louis Farrakhan says:

Dang Doc! You and DrFeelgood headed me off at the pass before I could get the snuff dippin, spam sucking, tin box, monobrowed neoliths that really would never have caught on to the humor. But, Jeff, I commend you on letting the secret out about the TOP SECRET DR. PILL!!! And I had told folks for years it was coincidence that doctors NEVER got sick. Nurses do. Office personnel, and lab techs get sick. But for almost 15 years now, I haven't seen the Doc call in sick!

Graves you are a butt hole jerk! You have made fun of a serious epidemic that is more important then AIDS! Then you try to fool us with acting like you are a local doctor with another screen name. WELL I AM NOT FOOLED BY YOU. You have put down us "trailer trash" folks for the last time. I used to like you. I even defended a few times. But I am now seeing you for the low life piece of crap you is! I won't you removed for making fun of a epidemic that is deadly! YOU BUTT HOLE JERK!

Hey Mustang, slow the he"** down. There is a Doctor Price in Clanton and from the way he talks that was not Graves. That is something true Graves I have never seen a Doc get sick, I am gonna ask my Doc about the top secret pill. If there was a secret pill I wish they would give it to us all. Yes the H1N1 can be deadly but honestly the seasonal flu is worst and so is AIDS. You may all think you know better but the only reason this is such a pandemic is because for once WHO and CDC scientists are baffled and all that overtime pay is kicking their A@@. So the whole thing is it is our choce whether we get vacinnated or not. I am a nurse and I am not, BUT THAT IS MY CHOICE. I have a healthy immune system with no other issues ticking. Now my mom who is a heart patient prob should get the pig shot as you all refer to it. There are a lot of deadlier and crazier diseases going around. That is not stopping the kids from having sex (AIDS, STD's), and that is not stopping smokers to stop smoking. Wake up America we are all dying and killing eachother in the process. Now to all have a good night and a good flu season....... Happy Sneezing!
