Several arrested for drugs

Published Monday, October 26, 2009

Chilton County sheriff’s deputies have arrested several people on various drug charges this month.

Most of the arrests involved methamphetamines or marijuana, according to Sheriff Kevin Davis.

The sheriff said none of the cases are related but do reflect the county’s ongoing battle against illegal drug use.

“The manufacturing of meth is becoming a daily fight for law and drug enforcement officers,” said Davis. “The problem is the availability of the ingredients to manufacture it. They can buy all the ingredients right here in Chilton County.”

The arrests, according to Davis, include:

•Charles Turner, Sonya Shields, Richard Shuffert and Warren Driver were arrested on Oct. 13 off County Road 438 and were charged with being in possession of an active meth lab.

•Jimmy Keith Baker, Jessica Baker, William Trent McMinn and Holly Wilson were arrested off County Road 247 on Oct. 16 on meth charges.

•Benny Headley was arrested in Jemison on Oct. 18. Police recovered more than $33,000 worth of marijuana plants and $5,000 worth of growing supplies.

•Jeremy Smith was arrested Oct. 19 in Thorsby allegedly with an active meth lab and faces distribution charges.

•James Harold Connell was arrested Oct. 20 on meth charges.

the sad thing about it all, is that most of these will become infomants for the sherriffs office and will walk away scott free.

The sad thing is the corrupt officials are still carring on business as usual and other good officials know it but will not do anything about the "Chilton County Good Ole Boys" as they are known. I have heard that phrase so many times in the past 15 years by many different people. And once was told if it gives you any peace God will take care of them in the end.

The last one has been charged about 7 times over the last four months. He walks away a free man every time. He even got caught making shake n bake with the kids in the house that he already don't have custody of and still nothing has been done. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK SHERIFF.

jeralyn4313: its no longer sad, its a fact of life here. wouldnt surprise me one bit if they were paid by some of that good old trash. clap real loud for the sheriff, he has solved a big mystery! LOL

So, what I am reading here, is...ya'll would prefer NOTHING be done about this problem as opposed to arresting these morons and the courts turning them loose. After the arrest it's all about the lawyers, tag, and, unfortunately, politics. But today's thread seems to be in opposition of this Sheriff doing ANYTHING. He's doing such a poor job compared to the last ...um person we had. Yeah right. Keep taking the fight to these meth, crack, pill, and pot users and abusers, Kevin. Good job to the guys actually fighting this losing battle.

It doesn't do much good if they keep arresting them and the courts keep releasing them. Maybe we need to know why the courts keep doing that.

harsher sentencing please... I don't want these folks on the road high/drunk while I'm out with my family. And I definitely don't want this folks selling their trash to my kids or friends of my kids!

Well now that we are a socialist country for the most part, will the government enter the business of selling drugs since it is now in many private businesses?

Am I kidding? Not sure anymore!

Posted by Rickey (anonymous) on October 27, 2009 at 4:14 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Arrest them ... put'em in jail ... make the cops look good ... go to court ... pay a fine ... and get released! It has worked this way for years, and frankly, I don't see any inprovement.
And I don't know what socialist country southernpride is living in, but he / she is welcome to stay there!

Rickey, he may be referring to the country that is firing the management of PRIVATE companies, diminishing the First Amendment, and plunging us into abject financial peril (a.k.a. stimulus).

getbizi -
You may or may not be right. But you are certainly entitled to your opinion, and I am honor bound to respect that. There are 3 (just 3) topics on which I do not mention either on the net nor in public nor in general conversation. Politics happens to be top of that very short list.

Finally, you might want to brush up on your knowledge of the United States Constitution ... the First Admendment addresses the prohibitive establishment of a state religion.
It's got absolutely nothing to do with a country firing the management of private companies, and is therefore, not diminishing of anything. Thought you should know!

Posted by November162000 (anonymous) on October 27, 2009 at 5:25 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Rickey: It seems to me that getbizi has ALREADY brushed up on the Constitution and the associated Bill of Roghts. If you don't (or won't) see the socialist direction that this country has gotten on the fast track of, then you simply are blind or intentionally being disingenuous. And, if you don't (or won't) see the attempted silencing of individuals and companies by the present holder of the Office of the President, then you simply CANNOT be paying attention. I think getbizi got it exactly right. Maybe you need to brush up on your comprehension of the Bill of Rights, or maybe you need to open your eyes and ears and start paying attention. To quote jeremiah wright, very soon "the chickens will" start to come home to roost. Very soon even the densest of liberals won't be able to deny that our nation has been destroyed by socialism, even the ones that are now welcoming it. Some will be too stupid, though, to realize what it was that happened, or why.

I think ya'll believe TOO MUCH of what the media spoon feeds you! Just like that ridiculous TV commercial by Roche Labratories about Accu Chek Aviva meters. You know the one, the older WHITE woman with the thick, southern country accent, identifying with the younger BLACK male because his child has diabetes like she does. The film shows them propped up against lockers like highschool teens in love. And in her thick southern accent she claims these meters are MADE IN THE USA.

I watched this commercial 40 or 50 times. Then I took MY Accu Chek Aviva meter out of the case to see how true this medium was. Mine says in bold ENGLISH, "MADE IN IRELAND".

If you believe all of the crap you see on TV, including the anti-current administration commercials, Faux News, and rumors, then YOU are a major contributing factor of the downfall of AMERICA!

Posted by November162000 (anonymous) on October 27, 2009 at 7:35 p.m. (Suggest removal)

kw: I can speak for myself when I say that NOBODY spoon feeds me anything. I believe only what I see with my own eyes, hear with my own ears, and balance that against what I already KNOW to be facts. I don't believe any "crap", but I do absolutely and proudly admit to being what you would consider to be a "major contributing factor of the downfall of AMERICA!" If, that is, you consider being against people like Van Jones, and an ever-increasing list of admitted Maoists and Marxists in obama's inner circle, and being against organizations like ACORN that are so beloved by your man. On those grounds, and some others, I am absoutely PROUD to be considered by you and like-minded folks as being a contributing factor to the downfall of America. Being out of sync by 180 degrees with your (and others') type of political thinking should put me almost exactly on the right track, and make me VERY American.

This just gets deeper and deeper and sadder and sadder..seems one of the guys listed above was run over with a vehicle Friday by a known drug addict named Pam H. (that the Chilton Police will not arrest and she has several warrants on her)...the guy was taken to the hospital and wanted to place charges against her but the Chilton police would not allow him to. AND they put HIM back in jail. AND and a police report was made where she threatened to kill him and his mother over the phone Friday night. She is still running free..you have to ask WHY??? This is a dangerous woman! Strange things going on people. When you talk of cleaning up the drug makers, sellers and addicts...lets get them ALL. And get to the REAL truth of things.

j4313: That's sad!

Posted by kwsrgraves (anonymous) on October 27, 2009 at 8:24 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Well, November, I wasn't pointing a finger. And I wasn't addressing YOU, in particular. I was merely pointing out, many people are outraged over issues they "THINK" exist.

Since you crowed, tell me how this administration has directly affected you, personally. Your bottom line, healthcare, VA benefits, personal patient/physician relationship. Your INIVIDUAL rights that are obviously MORE important than your country. Tell me, how has Van Jones, Jeremiah Wright, ACORN, and Obama directly, physically, or financially affect you.

I was affected in June of 08 under another administration when gasoline hit $4.25 per gallon. My retirement account had a 6% loss because it is vested in AMERICAN ONLY corporations, stocks and bonds. And 800 billion dollars (and most of the taxes I paid) were given to Bush/Cheney's cronies, as a golden parachute, at places like Goldman-Sachs, and avoided Lehman Brothers because of party affiliation. This enormous amount of money was handed to "white collar, corporate, republican, coroporate greed, America, with NO expectation of repayment. No outrage by Sean (I found my niche to capitalize on uneducated fear) Hannity, Newt ( sour Grinch) Gingrich, or Glen (mormon polygamist religious freedom) Beck. These guys screamed loud because the fruitloop Palin sunk a ship that turned on blue collar, working Americans. Do you really believe a majority of Americans, like me voted for Obama because we thought he was the second coming of CHRIST? NO!!! We were sick of being LIED to, and, ripped off by a REPUBLICAN party that sold it's soul to SATAN in the name of "the religious RIGHT"!
My personal situation has is steadily improving under this administration. We are still contracting work at GITMO, Iraq, Afghanistan, and all the places the last administration placed us. But unlike the summer of 08, the Dow has gained 5500 points, almost 60% of it's value, that the last administration ALLOWED it to lose. And now those, in that administration, are capitalizing on low priced stocks, property, and struggling Americans. America got SCREWED by the last group and they are wanting more gloom and doom because things are actually IMPROVING under a non-caucasion POTUS. GO FIGURE. But, please tell me how OBAMA has PERSONALLY screwed you in 9 months.

Graves, you speak so much about the "Republican" lies and the "religeous RIGHT", I'm sure you also had a problem with Bill Clinton subverting the 1996 presidential election by accepting campaign funds from overseas, he and Congress raising taxes, involving us in Haiti and Somolia, Janet Reno obstructing justice in the campaign finance investigation and Chinese espionage. Oh, and did I mention Waco and Elian Gonzalez? And I almost forgot about Surgeon General Jocelyn Elders suggesting masturbation as an alternative to teens having sex. Both parties have their albatross', some people like to march in lock step with their party and seem to have short-term memory loss on some negative aspects.

It is amazing how all of these arrest happen so close to election time. As for the sheriff we had before this one, I had A LOT more respect for him and the job he did than those running the sheriff's department now. There are those out there who think that this sheriff can do no wrong - many of them because our last sheriff didn't coddle them or put up with anything from them. I know that there are officers putting their lives on the line every day in Chilton County (and where I now work) and they do an excellent job - too bad they don't have the leadership in Chilton County that they can be proud to serve under anymore.

Getbizi, funny thing, you can research my voting record/party affiliation. You can go back through all of my comments. You will see I was a member of the Republican party and voted Republican, until the last Son of a Bush tried to lead this country into self destruction. My first Democrat vote came after the atrocity of the 2000 election hiest in Florida. I began to see a change in the GOP. They embraced religion as a means to get us Christian's VOTES ONLY. They have done NOTHING to promote any "christian values" by means of legislation. They duped us. And I was one of the suckers that voted for them. NEVER AGAIN!

kw: I'm having major internet connection problems tonight, so suffice it to say that 'it ain't all about me', it's about something one hell of a lot more important than me or you and our money, although that will soon be GREATLY affected if your compatriots get their way. That will affect YOUR pay, too, I'll bet you'll start believing the truth that is plain as day then. It's about our country and it's future. I'm concerned for our future, but not worried though; I believe that there are enough patriots like-minded with our founding fathers to make necessary changes--- soon. We will see.

Although this has gone off the main topic, one thing I do remember during W's second term was the Dems controlled Congress then so any "pork" or whatever happened, it occured during the Dems "watch" and vote.
Both parties are to blame for much of what has happened and what is now going on..
What America needs now are LEADERS and not wannabe politicians....Statesmen are needed.

jeralyn - you must also know that she is an informant for the sherriff's office. So is her boyfriend who had a meth lab, got busted went on the run to another state was arrested by the feds sent back to Chilton County and left the court room a free man because he was told "I'll scratch your back if you'll scratch man." I think they should all rot in jail. Sherriff's office should stop cutting so many deals.

There will always be room for improvement and a community that can work together will see it. Don't ever say things will NEVER change.

Do our judges even look at the risk involved to the public when they release these criminals? NO, our judges do NOT care about the public and our safety.

On a scale of high, moderate, and low risk none of the decisions made to protect our community are drawn from a risk scale the only thing you will hear about is who caught them, not who freed them and why...

Posted by alive (anonymous) on October 28, 2009 at 8:57 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Chiltoncountypeach: Why don't the Judges care about our safety? Don't they live here too? Don't their children walk on the same streets...in as much danger as we are?
Are our judges all from a different county?

One other thought. Where would they put all these criminals if they were arrested and kept in jail instead of let go? Is the jail big enough? Do we want to pay more tax to build bigger facilities? I know I would. I want them off the streets and I don't ever want my house burglarized again by some addict looking for a few items to sell for a fix.

Posted by njones (anonymous) on October 28, 2009 at 9:04 a.m. (Suggest removal)

It still amazes me that people worry about over-crowding in the jail/prison system. "OUTlaws" choose to live outside of the laws that most people follow thereby taking a risk of being caught and placed in a jail/prison. I do realize that outlaws, by nature, are prone to stupidity, but don't they realize they, themselves cause the problem of over-crowding? Why should anyone's tax dollars be used for more and more and more prisons???? Harsh? you bet, but like you, I'm sick of providing 3 square meals a day, health benefits and whatever else these idiots are "entitled" to.
Maybe all across America, the jails/prisons should be run on the philosphy of Sheriff Joe!

Hey njones: they can stack them on top of eachother like cordwood as far as I'm concerned! But will they? No. As for sex offenders...death is the only solution. That would give me peace of mind and I would feel no guilt if I were on a jury and absolutly knew the filthy creep was guilty. But what if someone is falsly accused and convicted? My comments on my previous post reflect the real world we all live in today. What is Sheriff Joes philosophy?

I am SOOO sick of hearing BIG FAT LIES about socialism and how this administration is taking away the peoples’ rights. ITS JUST PLAIN NOT HAPPENING!

It's the health insurance companies and Wall Street Fat Cats that want you to believe that crap so they can keep RAPING the rest of us and making SLAVES out of us!

It used to be that if you were willing to work hard, you could have a piece of the American dream. That is no longer the case. Now it is all about the big corporation’s bottom line, the stockholders, the CEO’s. The everyday working guy gets long hours and low pay that hardly ever increases.

Keep believing those lies, folks. As things get worse, you can accuse Obama of lying---even though it was the Republicans that kept him from doing any of the things he tried to do, to help the people in this country. It will be all HIS fault. Then you can pat yourself on the back and get yourself another REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT Cause, Gee, everything was SO GREAT AND WONDERFUL under Bush!!
I’m sure life would be just PEACHY, now, for everyone if John McCain had won the election.

The reason these people don't spend anytime in jail is because the jails as well as prisons are already over crowned,
If the courts was to put every single person that sells drugs in prison we would have to be like Florida and have a prison in every single county that is in Fla.
Yes they do need to be off the street and yes they do need to spend time in prison for the crime that they committed but as long as the jails and prisons here in Alabama are over crowned that isn't going to happen.
If we would do like other states and have a lottery we would be able to build more jails and prisons and we could take care of our roads but as long as we have the people that is in office now a lottery will never happen.
As we all know Alabama is so far behind the times that it is unreal.
The police dept is doing a great job at arresting the drug dealers but that's all they can do, it takes everyone working together.
But as long as we have the ones that is in office now all we are doing is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result.

But you won't do that either. It's easier to sit behind a computer screen and complain! You are typing too fast: It is the Bill of RIGHTS ... NOT the Bill of Roghts. I'm still trying to figure out what the "compatriots" are doing that's going to affect November and Grave's pay.

If it’s the public option for health care----well, he don't have to worry. The Republicans are going to make sure that gets screwed up. After all, they are the puppets of Wall Street and Insurance Companies.

People that have health insurance and a nice paycheck coming in, could care less about anyone else. They're scared to death that they might have to pay an extra dime so that someone else might get the medical care they need. They think just because they got lucky and hung on to their good job that they are somehow better and "more deserving" than someone who is less fortunate. It's that GREEDY mentality that got us where we are today.

BTW, I have a good job and health insurance, but, I really want the healthcare reform to be a success.

Posted by bama1870 (anonymous) on October 28, 2009 at 3 p.m. (Suggest removal)

kitty, how much of your hard earned money are you willing to give up so everybody has medical coverage? I don't know about you, but I feel over taxed already.

I really don't consider myself greedy, and I'm greatful for having a decent job and medical benefits, but the fact is I have to get up everyday just like you and give 110% to maintain that job.

I can't understand why you think you and I need to pay more taxes to cover someone's healthcare insurance, who may not be as committed as we are about keeping a job.

From those according to their ability, to those according to their need. Do you agree with that statement?

Thanks

Posted by kittycreek (anonymous) on October 28, 2009 at 5:06 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I would rather pay the money in taxes that would benefit individuals who need a little help rather than get continuously ripped off by insurance companies whose profits have have increased 428% from 2000 to 2007. These numbers were the top 10 Publicly traded Insurance Companies (Wall Street fat cats). Meanwhile, our premiums keep on going up.

The idea was to only tax those who make $250,000 + per year. We'll see how that works out.

Posted by bama1870 (anonymous) on October 28, 2009 at 6:19 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Yeah, my premiums are going up in January again, I'm still paying for gall bladder surgery that they only covered 80% of the total. It's crazy what the hospitals charge.

I still don't agree taxing folks based on how much they make, I'm pretty sure the top wage earners pay most of the taxes anyway.

If they raise taxes on companies like mine, that just means come raise time I will probably get less, and I can't ever recall working for a poor man....lol

I'm sure most folks with small businesses who earn 250K or more probably worked their tails off all their lives to get to that point, and for our government to penalize them for it just does not seem right to me.

Anyway, have a good evening...:)

Posted by kwsrgraves (anonymous) on October 28, 2009 at 6:58 p.m. (Suggest removal)

bama the top earners do NOT pay the most taxes. I used to think the same way until I started making decent money. The more I make, the more tax breaks and loopholes there are. And I don't make much. If I were making $250,000 I would pay LESS than a single 30 year old kid making $30,000.00. I can prove that one to you!

Rickey: Apparently your reading comprehension has not improved. I did not insult you in my above post, though I'm apt to do that at any given moment. IF you read my post, then you should have noticed that I wrote "Bill of Rights" more than once. There was a typo on the first instance and correct spelling thereafter, even YOU should be able to understand that it was indeed a typographical error and not a lack of spelling ability. You can deep-six your suggestion that I "think first then type" as I already do that, though I could stand to proof read a little more closely. You are the LAST person who should admonish ANYBODY about spelling or thinking. As for your suggestion that I "just leave"--- ain't happening Bubba. I don't recall anyone suggesting that to you when you were complaining about President Bush while he was in office, and you did PLENTY of complaining.

And one more thing; you say that "it is easier to sit behind a computer and complain". First of all, this is an opinion/comment section, that's part of what it's for. Second, there are few regular commentors on this forum who complain more than you do. You even complain about people complaining about you complaining. You also complain about things as trivial as the opinion polls that The Advertiser posts from time to time. I think the old saying about "stones and glass houses" would apply greatly to you.

I love the FAUX NEWS game. I am watching Bill O'Reilly. He is conversing with Dick Morris, (who talks a lot like Susan Estrich, Estrogen or whatever her name is) He, (Dick), is sitting in front of a "live" shot of the Vegas strip. It's dark, lit up, and calm weather. They are portraying a live conversation about Obama and TODAY'S events. I am sitting one block West of the strip. It's 5:10pm PST, partly sunny, snowing on Mt. Charleston, and 60mph winds. Funny how they portray little lies like that, nontheless bigger lies about healthcare and this administration.

Now I know all about pre-recording and backdrops. But Faux does this with EVERY topic they cover. I like to watch their desperation. And most of the country dismisses them, except for the Deep South. I admit I like Shepherd Smith, a southern boy done good! Even if he went to OLE MISS! I've been to see Dennis Miller 4 times, all complimentary tickets. His routine is EXACTLY what he and O'Reilly discuss with all the F, GD, and BS words added for, effect, I am sure.
Back to FAUX NEWS, a couple of weeks ago there was a gunman on a campus in Florida. MSNBC was showing the man in handcuffs being escorted by police. I flipped to FAUX and they were reporting it just occurred and police were on their way to the campus. Talk about misleading to the students watching FAUX NEWS for dependable info during a crisis. Same goes with reporting reliable info about ANY subject. They have become totally unreluable and desperate because they predicted Sarah Palin would help run, (or RUIN as the case would have been), our country. Sad part is many voters believe all of them, Fox, MSNBC, CNN, etc... I like the Bloomberg channel most of all. They "USUALLY" stick to business, not politics.

kw: "And most of the country dismisses them, except for the Deep South." That's peculiar, Fox News has a larger viewership that CNN and MSNBC, more than ABC and NBC conbined and are about to overtake CBS. Funny how that works out. I don't think that could happen if they didn't have more people watching them than the others do. I suppose that you think that the mere hundreds of thousands that watch the aforementioned networks are the only ones that are smart, and the millions that watch Fox News are all idiots or easily lead? I think if you want to find KoolAid Drinkers you need to look at MSNBC with Olberman and Madow and their three viewers.

Don't "OUT" nobody...it will come back to bite you!" I was not trying to prove anything and I did and do know what I was talking about as did others...your comment sounded like a veiled threat. As to it coming back to bite me....I have always stood behind the comments I make. I am and have always been a law abiding citizen...I vote...love my Country..and Love God. And Rickey the TRUTH will stand where a lie will fail everytime. I'm not worried about the bite part because these comments are not as anonymous as you might think.

Kitty: I totally agree with your comment. Each one, help one. There were times when neighborhoods looked out for each other, now it's lock your doors, watch out for the drug users, they might do any thing for a dollar. And we pay for our government to bicker about every single. Drugs are illegal, the cops did what they are paid to do, get the drugs off the streets, and I do not mind paying more for someone to have health benefits, I would rather my dollars go to some one in need in the USA then to worry about another country first. The Senators receive quality health care, because people like us pay for those Fat Cats. No one is perfect, there are problems every where, we all have to try a little harder to do the right thing, and we can agree to disagree, that's okay, as long as we respect each other opinions.

Washington conservatives as well as Wall street corporations need to understand that when they place so many burdens on the working/middle class, they destroy their own market and EVERYBODY LOSES.

My comments are like sooo totally of the subject..but, what the heck!

jeralyn -
Just so you know, and so that you will forever know, I have absolutely nothing to do with comments that get deleated from this page. I've even gotten deleated once myself, and I've concluded that if we hang out here long enough, getting deleated is inevitable. I don't think it is so much as truth that dictates whose message gets deleated; it has more to do with tact and common respect. And again, just so you will know, and just so you will ALWAYS know, I do not have a need to make veiled threats ... I don't make threats! I have an opinion and simple because it differs from yours, does not qualify as a "threat" ... at least in the eyes of the law. You, on the other hand, are free to interprete it any way you want. I DON'T CARE!

kwsgraves and November didn't invite me to breakfast :(
They like to pick on me but am I not worth two biscuits layered with sausage patties covered with gravy; a scrambled egg, a bowl of grits, a small serving of assorted fruit, a dab of cottage cheese and a mimosa (or two)? Never mind; I see their point. This ain't a meal ... it's GROCERIES ;)

I have been deleted and don't care if it happens again. Everything I have ever entered has been the truth along with the names, dates, and where to go to see it is true & I don't care if they delete me again. Truth is in Chilton County if you know the right person or person(s) you can do what you want is common knowledge! Kevin has proven this time after time since he took office. I will give names and dates of offenders being released or taken home because they were "connected" before I left this department but I don't expect to have to because this will be deleted before anyone sees it and I will have to log in under a different name. Come on Scott Mims, you have always been a stand up guy before, I will give you the evidence and you can expose those in this county for what they are instead of hiding behind your bosses and letting the rest of this garbage flow out into the county unanswered or show me to be just another screen name hiding behind something that can't or won't be proven!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you a journalist or just another "reporter" doing what is expected? You have my email address, contact me and I will give you the names and dates!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
