— The Maplesville Red Devils (8-1, 7-1 Class 1A, Region 3) blew past Holy Spirit (5-4, 5-3) Friday night for a 55-7 region win.

By beating the Titans, the No. 4-ranked Devils secured home field advantage in Round 1 of the playoffs.

Chris Bailey struck fast in the first quarter, returning a kickoff 80 yards. Then, Hunter McCay scored on a 22-yard run.

Holy Spirit’s only touchdown would come in the first, courtesy of James Pereyda on a 21-yard reception.

In the second quarter, Matt Hamner connected with Dustin Stephens, and a short touchdown by Bailey put the Devils up 28-7 by halftime.

After the break, Hamner and Bailey connected for a 31-yard passing touchdown, then Tyler Crumpton intercepted for the Devils.

McCay, Cameron Morrow and Demetrius Parker all scored in the fourth quarter. Morrow also intercepted a pass, and Jarnez Marzette picked up a fumble.

Maplesville coach Brent Hubbert said the Red Devils must be on top of their game next week.

“We’ve definitely got to come out with a little more fire in our hearts and play with a little more intensity and enthusiasm,” he said. “We’ve got to knock out the penalties and become more disciplined on the defensive side.”

The Devils will host their first playoff game Friday night, Nov. 6, after facing American Christian at Tuscaloosa next week.

Kwsrgraves, If you wouldn't talk down to everyone like you're the only intelligent one, people might not make these remaks to you. It's like you just comment to see if you can get a rise outta someone. Rarely do you just comment on the article without trying to say something in a smart way like you're this all-knowing person. You like hiding behind that keyboard , don't you???

Nope. We go through this about once a month. I don't type ANYTHING I wouldn't say to anyone's face. I do make the dark humored comments to get a rise. There have been 8 comments on this article. NOT one about the article, so that makes you a guilty party also. If you could see the smile on my face and the wink after 95% of my comments, you would know how much dark humor there is in my comments. And yes it IS to get a rise from folks thinking on a lower plane. Just like mopmom's comment. I took immense satisfaction from her, obvious, shallow response. So, you see, you were partially right. :)~

Oh, by the way that's STEVEN, (with a "v") R. Graves
I don't hide from anything, nor anyone.

For real guys. It was just a joke. Remember against Linden when dude got pinned to the ground? He was referencing that sort of because it generated so much interest. Good post KWS! I got what you were saying!

Well, I for one like to watch all the comments on the advertiser. Graves is one of my favorites eventhough I don't agree with him half the time! I also like the dark humor and if EVERY single person just said the well deserved "way to go devils" it would be pretty boring!
