Auxiliary's 'Pink Lady' honored upon retirement

Carrie Lee Jones was an inspiration to many people as a teacher and counselor at Verbena School. Upon her retirement in 1981, she continued to serve her community as a member of the Chilton Medical Center Auxiliary.

On Wednesday, friends, family members and coworkers gathered to celebrate Jones’ retirement from the auxiliary.

“Miss Carrie Lee, as everyone calls her, has been a devoted member of Chilton Medical Center Auxiliary,” hospital CEO Larry Jeter said. “We are honored to have had her as a member and a part of CMC for these many years.”

Jones joined the auxiliary in December 1981 and served until her husband, the late Rayford Jones, became ill in 1994. After staying with him through his illness, Jones returned to CMC in 2001. She has remained ever since.

As a “Pink Lady,” as members of the group have come to be called, Jones served as treasurer and on numerous committees to help provide equipment for the hospital through fundraising and various events.

The auxiliary also does community service projects and awards an annual scholarship to a Chilton County student interested in the medical field.

Jones, 89, of Clanton said she enjoyed her 20-plus years with the organization.

“I appreciate all the cards and gifts,” she said after the ceremony. “I’ll always think of Chilton Medical Center and the nurses.”

Jones has one son, Jerry (Pam) Jones, two grandchildren and one great grandchild.
