Clanton police makes meth arrests

Published Tuesday, November 17, 2009

Three county residents face charges of making methamphetamine at a home in Clanton.

Acie Bufurd Edwards Jr. of Clanton, Neil Allen Edwards of Clanton and David Allen Courtney of Verbena were arrested Saturday on charges of unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance. All three men were being held in the Chilton County Jail on $10,000 bond apiece.

Clanton police found the defendants burning Sudafed boxes in a back yard in the 100 block of Friendship Road and cooking what appeared to be meth, said Police Chief Brian Stilwell.

Detectives recovered a large quantity of meth oil along with chemicals to make the drug, according to Stilwell.

A private hazardous materials cleaning crew responded to tear down the lab and collect the chemicals.

“Methamphetamine is a very dangerous drug, and the making of meth is even more dangerous,” said Stilwell. “One of the jars recovered by the Haz Mat personnel was in such a hazardous state that it was close to exploding.”

Good now get the dirty rotton informants too. Quit feeding them the stuff to snitch. Let the Detectives do their jobs. The informants are dangerous people and KNOW that they can do anything and not get arrested! Let's do a clean sweep on these people I am so tired of the heartaches these drugs and druggies are causing!!

That's twice this week that the name of a former classmate has appeared in the paper this week on the wrong side of the law. Kids, go to college, but more importantly get out of Chilton County.

SEC, Please do not tell kids to get out of Chilton County. There are plenty of good people here, and we need more good kids to stay here to continue to improve this county. Why are you even on this website if you hate Chilton County so much?

Now Sec may not hate the county. Perhaps he thinks being here leads to nowhere, that is if you want a good paying job and things to do, this county maybe to small for the kids to remain here.

Just a thought.

I feel pretty safe in my neck of the woods. I hope it stays that way.

Seems kinda silly that they were caught burning Sudafed boxes and that's what got them busted. They aren't the sharpest pencile in the box, are they?

I've read some very worrying information about how dangerous a house is after its been used as a meth lab. There are a lot of people who've bought property, not knowing a meth lab had been run in it, and only learned of it when they, their children and their pets develop serious illnesses from exposure to the residue of the chemicals.

Kath, I have never heard about that problem. Tell me more or where I can find info. Thx!

Kath, I did some research and found what you said abut meth lab homes being very dangerous to live in. What if you buy a house that was formerly used as a meth lab? The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration has a list of addresses where these things have taken place, but I checked and there are only 2 for Chilton County. Now we have these meth lab articles all the time in the Clanton Advertsier identifying labs, how come these addresses aren't regiserted on the U.S. Drug Enforcement Adminstration's website for known addresses? The public should be warned before buying such a home. From what I read, it could cause severe health issues from just living in a home that was formerly used as a meth lab.

KW, I saw it. It should read "MAKE" and not "MAKES"

Hi KW,

I'm not sure how the "shake and bake" method works, or how much it produces, to be entirely honest I have only the most basic understanding of how meth is made. Frankly it'll stay that way.

I would assume that the homes have greater risk as there is usually more meth produced in a home lab than in a car "shake and bake." Some of the articles I've read have mentioned especially the contamination dangers from the kitchen counter tops in a house formerly used as a meth lab.

Either way, I'm just glad that Jeff and I are planning to build our final home on some land we have rather than shopping for something already built. Unfortunately though there are a LOT of people out there who don't know that this is a problem.

Steve, Im not doubting you. But how big was the truck? Isn't 31 lbs of pot pretty big? Isn't it just like a bale of hey or something? I guess you must think I'm pretty ignorant about such things...and your right.

Isn't that the second time I read one of your posts wrong. Last time I thought you called me a turkey mouth. LOL Thanks for the clarification. I totally get it now. I just saw an article yesterday on CNN where a dealership unloaded a new car from Mexico and it had a bale of pot on the seat. It looked really big...so I might have been thinking along those lines!

Acie (bo) Edwards has been on color code but he still passes his drug test.I wonder how that is.He probably told on his mom and sister so he could get out without paying a ton of money and not be charged. His sister sonya was charged a few months ago and guess what they gave her a couple of months of being on color code.
