Twelve years ago, Billingsley, Maplesville and Verbena all opened play in the South bracket of the Class 1A state playoffs and all won: Billingsley 55-19 over Kinston, Maplesville 34-18 over Fruitdale and top-ranked Verbena 14-7 over Millry.
