IRS looking to return money

Most of the time, people don’t want to hear that the Internal Revenue Service is after them. But that’s not the case for several Chilton County residents who are owed money from the federal government.

The IRS is trying to find six locals to claim tax refunds that were returned because of wrong addresses or other mailing errors.

“IRS wants to get these checks to their owners as quickly as possible,” said IRS spokesman Dan Boone. “All you have to do is update your address to get your refund check reissued.”

Checks are mailed to a taxpayer’s last known address. People wanting to update an address can do so online at IRS.gov or by calling 1-800-829-1954.

Chilton County residents owed money are:

•Radek Lemon, of Clanton.

•Sheena E. Ellison, of Clanton.

•Jairo and Gabyd Palagot Catana, of Clanton.

•Douglas Rian, of Clanton.

•Jesus Ruiz Torres, of Jemison.

•Miguel A. De La Crux, of Verbena.

The IRS tried to send refunds to and contact the people listed above. The IRS is now allowed to publicly disclose the names in hope that the check owners will see their names in print or someone who knows how to contact them will, Boone said.

Statewide, the IRS is looking to return $1.85 million in the form of 1,571 refund checks to Alabamians. That’s an average of $1,183 per check.
