Meetings planned for Collins Chapel
Published Wednesday, November 4, 2009
The Collins Chapel community, like all of Chilton County, finds itself at a crossroads. As growth continues to come to the county and its municipalities, many concerned citizens are asking important questions.
Several meetings and other events are planned for the Collins Chapel community in the coming weeks. The first is Sunday, Nov. 8 at 12:30 p.m. at the fire station and community park.
At the meeting, residents may enjoy free hotdogs and ask questions or provide input about any issue involving the community.
A second meeting on the future direction of Collins Chapel will be held Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. at Petals from the Past. Refreshments will be provided.
“We’re just trying to bring our community closer together,” said Harry Benson, speaking on behalf of a group of citizens. “Making no decision about what your future holds is a decision, and that may not be what you want to happen.”
The area known as Collins Chapel, centered around the church of the same name, extends north and east along County Road 29 to the city limits of Thorsby and Jemison, and to Interstate 65. It also extends south near Clanton and crosses U.S. Highway 31.
Benson encouraged all who are interested to bring a chair and “come sit a spell,” fellowship with neighbors and learn about upcoming events.
“We are all proud of our past accomplishments, but we want to move further,” he said. “That cannot happen unless [residents] get involved.”
A fire truck parade is also planned for Nov. 28 at 5:15 p.m., followed by an inaugural Christmas tree lighting at the fire station and community park at 5:30 p.m. Rumor has it Santa will be there to greet the kids.

This sounds like a great idea. I hope something beneficial comes of it.

Ok. The fact that there is a meeting, a fire truck parade, hotdogs to eat, and a rumor of St. Nick is good. But what issues are being discussed? What growth plans? Just curious.
