Supermarket develops own ‘stimulus’ program
Published Thursday, May 28, 2009
Big Business has been bailed out during our country's economic recession, but Associated Foods plans to help the average person with its latest promotion.

New card: Associated Foods owner Phillip Davis shows one of the store’s new gift cards. The store will launch a new program June 1 to add $10 to any $100 placed on one of the cards.
From June 1 to June 15, anyone who puts $100 on one of the store's new gift cards will receive an extra $10 on the card.
"Times are tough," store owner Phillip Davis said. "This is just a way to give somebody a little extra boost."
There will be no deadline on redeeming the cards, which act like debit cards, and customers can purchase as many cards as they like.
Davis said he thought of the promotion in February, and the store's new cash registers allow for the use of gift cards.
In addition to the registers, the store also features a produce case, meat cases, check stands, frozen food cases and dairy cases--all of which have been added in the last five years.
"If I can get somebody in the county in my store that hasn't been there in a while, I think they'll come back," Davis said. "That's what I'm trying to do."

Newsworthy?
Really?

The Advertiser needs to go outside the county a little more for newsworthy material. We just dont have enough happening in a county of 40K residents. Try running the "SEX WITH CHICKENS CURES BALDNESS" story sometime.

Uhh, It's "The Clanton Advertiser". I think what you are trying to say is, there is not enough juicy gossip in this county for you folks to get on here and comment about. So maybe "The Clanton Advertiser" should expand it's horizons to ensure we don't get bored.
too funny!

Have you ever noticied that its always the same select group of horses????? that start out with something negative to say about 99.999% of the local news.

I'd like to see more people says "Thanks" for someone doing something positive for our community. So, I say "Thank you" to Associated Foods!

Well, I for one am glad to see this story. I'm glad it's not a story about a murder, or a rape or a robbery. I didn't know about this new program, I think I'll go in there and get a gift card for my grandmother.

I LIKE to see local news ... I can get national or state news elsewhere. Where else could I get Chilton County news?
I remember a long time ago when I first started looking at land in Chilton County the headline that day was about a local couple of boys who had stolen a few packs of cigarettes from a local store. I decided right then and there if that was the worst they had to report that day that this was the place for me!
