Severe weather rumbles across parts of state

Published Thursday, March 26, 2009

MONTGOMERY — Severe thunderstorms with a threat of tornadoes rumbled across Alabama early Thursday dumping heavy rain and producing hail.

The National Weather Service has issued several tornado warnings, but no touchdowns were immediately confirmed.

Runoff from the heavy rain could flood some creeks, roadways and low-lying areas. A flash flood warning remains in effect for much of Alabama.

In neighboring Mississippi, the system was blamed for spawning a tornado Wednesday that destroyed a business and damaged several homes in east Mississippi.

Residents are urged to monitor rapidly changing weather conditions.
