Clanton set to celebrate July 4
Published Tuesday, June 30, 2009
The City of Clanton's Independence Day celebration will end with a bang, as always. But the fireworks show is only part of the activities planned for the night.
Beginning at 7 p.m., Saturday, July 4 at the youth league football field in Clanton City Park, there will be entertainment for all ages.
Rock trio: Thalon will perform on stage at Clanton's Fourth of July celebration Saturday night. The group consists of Wesley Springer, Jeremy Springer and Austin Childress. Musical entertainment will begin at 7 p.m., followed by fireworks at 9 p.m.
Local Christian rock band Thalon, Christian rap artist LP, and 3 Strands drama team from New Life Community Church all will perform on stage.
Also, inflatable rides and a water station will keep the little ones occupied and everyone hydrated for the festivities.
The fireworks are scheduled to begin at 9 p.m.
"I think the Fourth of July fireworks show is such an event that New Life wants to say with what we're doing that this is our gift to the community," Scott Springer, church pastor, said. "We just want folks to come out and enjoy it."
Thalon, who recently finished recording a worship album called "Thalon Worship," is touring heavily in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. They will have their merchandise for sale during the event.
"They've been heavy on the road touring," Springer said.
The group wrote a song with LP, whose moniker stands for "Like Paul." The music will start at 7 p.m. and last until 9.
Thalon will return to the stage in City Park on Sunday morning and lead worship during New Life's 10:30 a.m. service. Everyone is invited to attend.
For more information about Independence Day festivities, contact Clanton City Hall at 755-4051 or New Life Community Church at 755-6485.

We've always gone to this. This year we are going to the July 1st festivities in Thorsby but still plan to attend the July 4th in Clanton.
I love the small town traditions. Keep them going.

The Clanton Fireworks show rivals Birmingham's Thunder on the Mountain in my opinion. When you consider driving 45 min. up to Birmningham to see a larger burst of the same fireworks, staying close to home and enjoying a nice peach and glass of sweet tea while viewing our display is the better option.

LOVE the Clanton fireworks show and the pre-show activities sound great! If you want to extend your July 4th celebration, Lomax Assembly is having their annual celebration on Sunday, the 5th starting around 4 pm....inflatables, water slides, mechanical bull..(most are in the air conditioning). Lomax always throws a good party!

I totally agree. We haven't been to a 4th of July fireworks yet in Clanton but are planning on it this year. Especially with our government and the way it's headed we should celebrate our freedom while we have it!!!!!

I wish Clanton well and a safe 4th. Unfortunately, I will have to watch the fireworks on the rooftops of the Las Vegas Strip without KW for the second year in a row.
I have been fortunate to watch fireworks from Ft. McClellan, (basic training), Ft Riley, (ROTC advanced course), Auburn University campus, Lake Martin, Lake Mitchell, Lake Meade, Clanton, Montgomery, Birmingham, Wetumpka, Disney World, (1976 Bicentennial parade), Lake Jordan, and some I have no memory of thanks to Jack Daniels and my immaturity. But my favorite was a weeks pay spent on fireworks in my driveway with my kids, Courtney, Ryan, and Jeremy. And my WONDERFUL wife Karen Webb Graves! Mosquitos, fire ants, (which I don't miss) and fireflies, (which I do miss). Happy fourth Clanton. I WILL be there next summer!

I'm so glad my hubbys leave got approved and we will be home for the 4th. I called to check and see if they were doing fireworks on the lake this year (love being on the boat and watching the fireworks show Bozo's use to put on) but they aren't doing it this year. So I'm thinking we will load the entire family up and go to Clanton to watch the show. I'd much rather watch someone else's money go up in smoke rather than my own.LOL. But your right KW, the best is when your kids are young and you spend way to much money on fireworks and do them in your front yard and see the amazement on the face of your young kids as each one explodes in a bright, colorful, fireball.
