Purse snatcher caught

Published Saturday, June 27, 2009

The north Chilton County man believed to be involved in a string of purse robberies targeting older women in Helena, Calera and Montevallo in Shelby County on Friday has been arrested.

David Paul Warren, 32, who faces robbery and assault charges, was apprehended while driving along Highway 52 in Helena Friday night, according to authorities. He is being held in the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $116,000.

Warren's alleged purse snatching spree began when a woman was robbed at Lucky's in Montevallo at 10 a.m. Friday. The victim suffered injuries and was transported to an area hospital.

A second woman was robbed in the Helena Winn-Dixie parking lot at 11 a.m. The victim suffered injuries when Warren allegedly threw her to the ground. Warren is also believed to have assaulted a store employee.

A third woman was robbed at the Calera Wal-mart around noon. She too suffered injuries.

Snatching their purses is one thing ... but to throw them to the ground... I'd like to see him do serious time just for that!

I wish the court would rule that the victims get to hit this guy with their purses until he begs for mercy. It's so sad that these type people are allowed to live and reproduce in our society. What a good for nothing moron.

Wasn't he supposed to be "ARMED AND DANGEROUS"? The dangerous part, maybe. But I still haven't seen the armed part, unless it meant he had two.

David Paul Warren - you are a coward and I hope you never get out of jail. You don't deserve to be in society with the rest of us. You deserve to be right where you are ... in jail ... where you might have to learn to trade tooth paste and cigarrets with a cell mate named "Big Bubba". And I hope that "Big Bubba" hits you with his purse and I hope that he does it every single day. Cowards like you make me sick and I just want to puke on you!

I don't think we should waste our tax money on putting him in jail. I vote for beating the living daylights out of him instead.

I have no trouble with cutting off his hand or lashing him with a cane. For those that think this is barbaric, countries that use these methods certainly don't have the high crime rate we do!!

Citypeach you sound like a sour peach. No need to attack the man's wife. And if I read this article correctly, it has NOTHING to do with Clanton or it's administration. I know we stray from the topic a lot, but there are some paths we don't travel. A personal attack on the Chief's wife is one.

I agree with Graves....wow, CityPeach, that really came out of left field! This story is about an arrest that was made in Shelby County! It would seem you didn't READ the article...just saw the words Chilton County and arrested and saw an opportunity to bash someone with whom you obviously have a personal issue. If the town is such a joke to you there are plenty of other towns for you to choose from! I was not born here nor do I plan to stay here forever, but for now it is home and it is a fairly safe and decent place to live.

Funny how people change through the years...

Once upon a time, in a far away land called Tallassee, I knew this guy. He was a superstar athlete and had a lot going for him. Last time I saw him, he was in college playing baseball.

It truly bothers me to see that he has stooped to snatching purses from women. I mean...who still snatches purses?!? I thought identity theft was the new purse snatch? I'm being a little sarcastic because it is truly a shame how drugs can cloud your judgement.

After talking with some mutual friends, I can see that this bad turn probably started about 10 years ago and has snowballed into what appears to be a nice, long trip to the big house. My mom always told me that if you do the crime be prepared to do the time. I would usually say good luck but you probably deserve everything you're going to get....

Probably won't get much time for theft. Robbery second degree, would still only get him probation in most counties. The prisons are so overcrowded with pot smokers, meth heads, and repeat DUI offenders, that, there is little room for muggers and thieves.

I'd like to know how the victims are doing. Elderly women have such fragile bones and when a serious break happens they're often never the same again.

There are some blood-thirsty people that comment on here. I'm glad those individuals don't actually make judicial decisions. This guy should deffinately do prison time, and be treated for whatever kind of addiction he has. I don't know the guy, but people that go after $25 here, and $40 there are usually feeding a drug habit. People like this have made bad decisions and should experience the consequences, but the punishment should also fit the crime.

If the injuries are severe enough, could be Robbery 1, and some serious time. That however would be a stretch.

I know David far better than I wish to, so let me say with a little research you will find these are not his most serious crimes.

absolutely...I know him pretty well myself. Considering he lived with me during high school and we shared an apartment briefly during college. He was once a decent kid...too bad so many bad decisions were made...
