Prostitution ring busted

Sting operation at local apartment complex nets two arrests

Published Wednesday, June 24, 2009

People calling to schedule a haircut soon learned that one “barber shop” offered quite a variety of other services and products.

“We received complaints about an advertisement for ‘Residential Barber Shop for Men Only,’ and when you called that number you could order just about anything from drugs to prostitutes,” Clanton Chief of Police Brian Stilwell said Wednesday in a press release.

Clanton police on Sunday arrested Saul Reyes Rendon and Maria Guzman Rojas, both of Montgomery, for promoting prostitution, first degree. Rojas was also charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Clanton police detectives, along with the Alabama Beverage Control Board, the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office and Jemison police, set up an undercover sting operation at a Clanton apartment complex.

Police ordered a prostitute, and when the two individuals arrived they worked out a sex-for-money deal with an undercover police officer.

Since the prostitution operation was aimed at the Hispanic community, a Spanish-speaking police officer from Jemison helped.

Rendon and Rojas are being held in the Chilton County Jail. Rendon is being held on a $100,000 bond and Rojas on a $105,000 bond.

No one has posted to this yet...Wow, I thought for sure graves would be in here complimenting the prostitutes...I mean police.

I totally agree.  He has no life.  I bet if you met him on the street, he is quite.  He has something to comment on everything and most of his comments resemble that of STUPID, so therefore his bark is alot bigger than his bite.  I would like to meet him face to face.  I mean what is it with him???

WOW! GREAT JOB GUYS, PEOPLE WE NEED TO WAKE UP. THIS BAD STUFF IS NOT JUST IN THE MOVIES ANY MORE IT IS COMING HOME TO CHILTON COUNTY. LETS STAND BEHIND OUT OFFICES OF THE LAW (CITY & COUNTY) AND PRAY FOR THEM NOT PUT THEM DOWN. UNLESS YOU WANT TO WALK IN THEIR SHOES. THIS COULD BE YOUR CHILD THEY ARE SELLING DRUGS TO. GOD PLEASE UP THIS DYING WORLD!!!!!!!!!!

I totally agree JOANN. We need to wake up. People just do not see what is going on in Chilton Co. and everytime Graves makes a comment it is just pure STUPID. I see alot in the schools and people DO need to wake up for a children's sake.

Totally unrelated, but

I typed "Clanton, Alabama" into "google images" and some of the very first pics are HORRIBLE...I'm sure its just great for potential investors and visitors to see that when theyre trying to see what Clanton looks like :-/. Anyone know if there's anything we can do to fix it?

Graves, is only here to spy on the public and their views of our "law enforcement", and if "they" don't like what we have to say they just suggest removal, because God forbid someone speak the truth in Chilton County, Alabama. If the advertiser wants to remove comments we post, then why allow us the freedom to speak on their site. First Graves, always has to reply with something critical that someone else has said.

Well hunkahunkaburninlove, just how much bark and bite do YOU have? You seem to be sounding awfully big there, show us something. Or shut up.

I have to agree. Hunka seems to be insulting as well as threatening Graves. That is uncalled for hunka. One more word of advice, be careful what you wish for - you might meet him one day and catch him in a bad moment. Just saying...

And for the record, chiltoncopeach, if you post something unfit it may very well be ME that suggests the removal of your comment. This is supposed to be a small town family newspaper so the comments should be kept polite don't you think?

kw: I swear, I think some of these folks must be lifetime subscribers to "male enhancement" products. I think they may have let that false impression of themselves give them an overly-inflated self-confidence. Sure seems like it.

kw...I don't doubt that for one second brother. Owing to some injuries and foolish drunkeness in my youth I have some gaps in my memory and do not recall our runin but I have no doubt I was probably a horse's rear to you. Again, but this time here publicly, I apologize for any offense.

I still look forward to meeting up when you come back around.

Well, that's a pretty good comeback, but I still think he's OD'd on male enhancement products. I might be wrong, he might show up at breakfast some morning when we are both in town. Or is it a "she"? One never really knows.

Seriously? Is the Clanton Advertiser now a place to argue over your personal life? I'm young, and I have never heard or read anything like this before. If you wanna argue with someone seriously, stop using the Clanton Advertiser as your place to pick fights and criticize every single day. I've never seen so much hostility. So this is the one time I'm going post my opinion on anything other than the story. Grow up. Act like an adult, if you are an adult, and find somewhere else other than a public site to do your arguing.

Glad to read all the comments that are related to the story. Oh wait, sorry. There are only maybe FOUR comments on the actually article! Now you can all bash me for speaking my opinion. Because honestly, not even my classmates are this bad.

Good job to the Clanton police. Keep up the great work guys. You definitely deserve praise.

Somehow I just KNEW this wouldn't be the "only" time you posted your opinion on anything other than the story.

Posted by thsgrad08 (anonymous) on June 25, 2009 at 12:30 a.m. (Suggest removal)

And somehow I knew you just probably couldn't act maturely. Seriously.

Seriously, go to bed. Brush your teeth first.

Aw that's really cute. I mean it. Funny I get on here maybe thirty minutes a day, seems like you spend your lives on here. Arguing every day with someone new. Its like you live and breathe to post your opinions on nearly every single article.

Now I'm going to stop arguing with you because honestly you aren't worth a second more of my time. I may be young but apparently have more maturity than you do. But no, November I'm not going to bed. Sorry to disappoint you. Maybe you too will actually get a life and get off Clanton Advertiser. But that may just be asking a little to much.

Again, great job to the law enforcement. You deserve a lot of praise.

thsgrad08 ---- you are so right! Whether it's past your bedtime or not, you're a smart one. Gotta go kiss my spouse goodnight and make sure the kids are tucked in. That's my life and I love it.

Glad you liked it! I don't live and breathe to post my opinion on every article, because, if you have paid attention, you would know that I don't. I live and breathe to tick off folks that think they have more experience and maturity that God, but have probably barely been outside Chilton Co. in their mere 18 or so years, but then like to lecture those of us who have.

And, just out of curiosity, how much "praise" are you willing to heap on the LEO's for busting a bunch of idiots that were advertising their criminal activity? Doesn't seem to me like that took a whole lot of sleuthfulness. I'm all for 'em, but, hey, the idiots were advertising. Geez!

I remember when people used to ask the admins. of Al.com for a Chilton County forum to air out their opinions. Looks like we got one of our own going on here. This is great. Come here to read the banter, and get the local news on the side. lol

Posted by juswannabeheard (anonymous) on June 25, 2009 at 7:36 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I agree that law enforcement did a good job. They are continually improving. So what if the folks were advertising, and that's how law enforcement found them. The point here is that they took notice and then took action. That is what they are paid for. The bad thing is that these people are probably illegal, so they won't be convicted and serve time. If they do they will go to a federal prison vacation spot to await transport back to thier native hispanic country. Then in about 2 weeks they will be back, with a lesson learned on how not to get caught and with a different identity. Been there, seen ithappen this way.

I can't even really slam the hispanic community for the prostitution because it has been a concern in Chilton County for a long time. Law enforcement is like any other agency. They have priorities and frankly I would rather see a bunch of drug bust or illegal arms bust than prostitution. I know that alot of resources are wasted on the Drug Task force, but for every drug dealer they bring in off the street, (and manage to convict instead of getting them to roll on someone else) is one less I have to worry about my kids buying drugs from.

As for the hoopla on here, sometimes it is thought provoking, others it is a testament to how truly backwards Chilton County is. I haven't decided which part I like best yet. (how messed up does that make me?)

When I worked at the Advertiser 25 years ago, we'd have given anything to have hundreds of comments each week on the things that end up in the paper. But back then the only thing you could do was buy an ad - $3.65 a column inch for one time (check the ratecard now) - or write a letter to the editor. But we wouldn't run your letter unless you signed it, which kept most folks away. Technology is great; this blogger's forum helps keep the printed version of the Advertiser viable. Done right, it is a good thing. I read the story first, sometimes in the actual printed version, then I read the comments, and I have a big chuckle (laughs are hard to come by these days, gotta take what you can get). And having a few "special guest bloggers" is also a good thing. Who knows - one day there might be a special blog for Bi-coastal Parrothead Electricians. BTW, there's more to read in the print version of the Advertiser - they don't put everything on the website. Need to keep picking up a copy as often as you can.

I wish they would put the entire paper on the web. I would be happy to subscibe to it. I think other people would too. I don't want to put up a paper box. I have enough trouble maintaining my mail box, which is a long way from the house.

I find it really hard to believe any one could sell sex in Chilton County.........its not very difficult to find it for free and it often gets offered whether you are looking for it or not...... and as for all the people who post negative comments on here about the regulars you can simply just not click on the comments if you dont like them or choose to click off if you get offended......sometimes I find the comments dont interest me, other times I find them interesting or at least entertaining.....this is still America, thank God for our freedom

See, this is the kind of thing you can expect when you allow liquor sales and gambling, sin, sin, sin. Yes, I'm being facetious - sorta.

Said it before, if we're content believing that vices like gambling are acceptable and tolerable and good so long as we can make money or get something out of them then why not prostitution? Where are all the progressive politicians promising a filet mignon in every pot (cause chicken just ain't good enough anymore) if we can just lower our standards and allow a good, solid, regulated, and most importantly, TAXED sex trade in Chilton County? Think of the money we could make if we required every sex worker to purchase a license and taxed every John 35% for every encounter. Goodbye budget problems, hello happy days!

Okay let me offend someone even tho that is not my intent.

I could care less if someone was prostituting theirself out.

If we are known for one thing in this county, other than for peaches, it is the large amount of whorish women that will do their thing with whoever for free.

So I don't understand why people are paying for it myself other than they probably do not want the drama that goes along with the local Chilton citizens that would offer their services for free.

Was reading posts and waiting on KW to mention the actual laws. If I read them correctly in the past, they stated, a Prostitute as long as that is the only person who profits, is not doing so illegally. Now, if they have someone who schedules the appointments and makes a profit then it becomes illegal. Also, illegal to solicit on a corner. Strange laws. So does this interpret that one could actually open a business and have cards on the counter. And, as long as the sole owner is the only one that offers the service and makes a profit it is legal? Good Job to the local law enforcement agency. Does anyone know where this was located? And, exactly how long it had been going on? I bet this article is the gossip in all of the real local beauty and barber shops this week.

NOSUGAR: NO crap on the AMBIEN, My doctor gave me some to try to help sleep and not only did I cut my yard but I cut my neighbors grass too. They didn't wake me up until I was finished. LOL And I didn't remember ANY of it until the next day when I seen the lawnmower out front.

Now can you imagine some idiot out cutting YOUR grass in the middle of the night? I don't want any of that crap EVER again, I was so busy sleep walking, i could not have slept. (But our yards sure look good) I just wonder how many people get in the car and drive, they really should outlaw it. I'll never take another one!

About the Ambien,it has been awhile since I read it all but one woman climbed to the top of a construction crane, another flagged down a man and gave him her phone number, several made phone calls they didnt remember, and many got DUI tickets and did not even remember it. My mother and I have both taken it. They make her a zombie and give me horror movie quality nightmares. I took my last one about 6 months ago, and wont be taking any more. I bet everyone thought you were totally crazy, at least you got something done!

I personally think these girl, etc. should be stirring up people who proclaim to be born that way & really take being gay serious. Its like they are mocking the whole title. Plus, sometime down the road, gonna realize how stupid that they looked & how they embarrised their families . Some of these girls parents attend churches as well as they do that don't believe in being homosexual. Maybe if their parents stuck them some where for some serious counceling for about a month to help them find their identy, I promise 3/4 would come back straight. Are better yet take them out behind the barn & have a real " Come To Jesus Meeting " . I will probally catch some crap for spending my opion, but last time I checked we still have freedom of speech , thought & religion.

Alwaysright: It doesn't necessarily take four agencies to do a bust, it is four agencies working together to take down criminals with a combined effort. As far as a restaurant wanting to give discounted or free meals to officers that is their choice. All law enforcement put their lives on the line everyday, if you do not agree with how things are done maybe you should become an officer so you know exactly what they deal with on a daily basis!

As far as the "gay" or "bi" girls and boys it is how they feel or they may be experimenting, regardless it is their life and they can live their life how they want. It is not disgusting it is just not the "norm" for people so therefore people think it is wrong. Families should not be embarrassed they should accept and love their children for who they are. Even if they don't agree with it.

NO its not normal for under age or elderly people of any sexual preference to make out , not just a little kiss on the cheek. To MAKE OUT at public event representing our county, just as the event is letting out. I am sure if some , just say 80 year old couple showed up for a school event & displayed the same behavior they would be ask to leave, or possible arrested. I beg to differ with the experiminting theory, its either you are, are you ain't. If thats the case then let then drink , do drugs, steal etc. & use the excuse " they are just experiminting". To me its just about up there with exsposing yourself in public. Their just not taught any morals. I liked nothing more than to make out when I was young, but was taught you don't do it in public places. Maybe it was one of your girls? Odd I know several boys & men that are gay & have never wittinessed them acting this way in public. If it is one of yours and everyone knows who the kids are then , Boy that makes you look bad. Teach your girls self respect. I think it needs to be a class taught at school now since its such a problem.

Sunny04..."All law enforcement put their lives on the line everyday" Do you really believe this crap? Maybe by taking to big of a bite of the free or discounted lunch they enjoy regularly. Or, maybe they risk pneumonia from overexposure to their Crown Vic's A/C....but hardly does any of our overweight/out-of-shape, officers, deputies, reserves, troopers or "task force personnel" do it everyday in the line of duty. By the way- the last time I checked- choosing a career in LAW ENFORCEMENT was just that- a CHOICE! I have little to no concern/sympathy for someone who makes the poor choice to wear a sh** brown county uniform or a ridiculous trooper "hat" so they can have a gun and badge and flaunt their AUTHORITY to others.

It is the "Choice" that they made to protect people like you who think all they do is ride around in an airconditioned car. Yes, I know they put their lives on the line everyday to make sure that people of this county an inlaying cities are protected. If we didn't have the men and women to make the "choice" to join the Armed Forces people wouldn't have the freedoms that most people take for granted. So yes, I do believe Officers, and people in the Armed Forces do put their lives on the line everyday to protect mine, and for that I am grateful. And just FYI, the uniforms for this county are not brown.

Way to go Sunshine!

Some People take the protection and services they get (from our police and military) for granted. All they want to do is sit around and criticize.

The officer's of this county and surrounding cities may not have a call everyday that puts their life in jeopardy but even the slightest traffic stop can result in some IDIOT pulling out a gun and shooting an officer. While yes I agree with you it's a choice, it's also a choice to be a firefighter, a soldier, or a teacher. And those occupations are hazardous as well. When you need them you appreciate them more. Not all officers have the little man syndrome and use their badges they way some do, we do have some REALLY good officers here in Chilton County just trying to do their jobs.

Thank you! We do have great people in this county that are willing to protect it's citizens.
