Church News for June 11

Published Wednesday, June 10, 2009

Lime Springs United Methodist Church

Our Sunday School lesson continued to focus on Daniel 10-11. Bro. Shannon brought the morning message from Ruth 2:4-18 on the blessings of Boaz. He reminded us that Boaz was a man blessed by God with wealth, status and wisdom. When he met Ruth, the daughter-in-law of Naomi and a woman from Moab, he began to bless her with his blessings. These included grain from the fields, food, water and protection. In turn, Ruth and Boaz fell in love and were married. Giving birth to Obed assured Ruth of a place in history, as she would become the great grandmother of David, and a vital part of the lineage of Jesus Christ.

Bro. Shannon encouraged us to bless others with the blessings God has given us, as required in Hebrews 13:16. The greatest blessing we can give others is the blessing of salvation. As we have become part of the family of God, may our testimony bring others to the same blessing.

Belated happy birthday wishes to Debbie Becker.

Our evening Bible study was cancelled so we could attend the annual conference in Montgomery Sunday afternoon.

Our service times are as follows: Sunday School at 9:30 a.m.; Sunday morning worship at 11; evening Bible study at 5:30; and Wednesday night prayer meeting at 6:30.

For more information concerning Lime Springs, please call 755-6356 or 755-4950.

Friendship Baptist Church

Bro. William Short brought our message Sunday from 1 Timothy 6:11-19.

Some preachers would rather go along with the church than rock the boat. We come to hear the word of God. We need to listen and apply it to our daily lives. We need the truth; it will set us free.

The Bible states we are created equal, but we do have different roles.

Riches -- we have too much and we've got in a mess. We need to be rich in the Lord. This is more pleasing to the Lord.

During the evening service, Bro. Short was back with us with another great sermon from Psalm 1. Righteous and wicked people are contrasted.

Happy birthday this week to Raymond Moore, Will Petty and Cindy Walters.

Prayer requests: unspoken requests, Donielle Cleckley, youth and adult traveling mission trip, John Pate, Lester Brown, Maurine Simpson, Paul Horton, travelers, church, Ariel Edwards, Billy and Martha McCall, Margaret Martin, the Rev. Phillip and Susan McCall, Bevin McGuire, Andy McCall family, Jessie Marcus, Sandra White, Patti Davenport, David Marcus.

A special thank you for all those who helped in Vacation Bible School.

Upcoming events:

June 13: Raymond and Faye Powell's 50th wedding anniversary party from 2-4 p.m. in the church fellowship hall.

June 27: The children will go to the Birmingham Zoo.

Christ Independent Methodist Church

On this beautiful Lord's Day, Dr. Mac Stinson took his text from Romans 8:12-17. Here Paul is writing to Christians in Rome. Sunday was Trinity Sunday, when we praise and adore the mystery, majesty and grandeur of God, which is so deep and difficult for many lay people to understand.

In referring to the Trinity, in the Hebrew language the word "Trinity" is always plural but always limits its plurality to three. For Christians, the word refers to the union of three persons meaning Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We worship the Trinity, or God in three persons, on this day.

We ask you to continue praying for Dr. Stinson, Ken Osborne who will be in concert at CIMC on June 28, Harold and Marie Williams, Wade Williams, Wilma Ellison, Mae Hunnicutt, Autumn Glass, Mary Ann Carden who fractured a bone in her arm that went undetected for a while, Emily Isenhower, Opal Miller and the Rev. John Davis.

Join us in prayer for our military and their families, our country, our church and each other.

It was good to have Dwight Sammons at church with wife Beebee. Dwight is a faithful member, but his work requires him to be out of reach sometimes.

Vacation Bible School is July 6-10. You are invited to bring your little friends.

Our youth yard sale is scheduled for July 3. There will be more details later. Donated items for the sale will be appreciated.

Beulah Camp begins Thursday in Repton, Ala. Remember this camp is nondenominational and for all ages. You will be welcome.

Some of our members will be attending our annual conference. We pray for traveling grace for all those absent. Have a blessed week.

Sunday night's message was from Revelation 20:5. "But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection."

Don't forget our car wash June 13 at 8 a.m. at Advance Auto Parts.

We are located at 4964 County Road 7, Clanton. The church may be reached at 755-4719 or 755-5017.

Y'all come! May God bless you this week.

Pleasant Valley Baptist Church

Our God inhabits praise, and praise is what we offer him for the great things he has done! Pleasant Valley has definitely seen his great blessings recently. We have started two new Bible study classes, and attendance has increased remarkably.

Bro. Wayne's text Sunday was from John 10:1-10 as he preached on the abundant life we have in Christ. Three adults made professions of faith in Jesus Christ and two more adults joined by letter. Thank you, God, for your blessings.

Our Vacation Bible School will begin Sunday, June 14 and run through Thursday, June 18 with commencement services Friday, June 19. Times are 6:30-8 p.m. nightly. Classes are available for nursery through adult. Everyone is invited, and we would love to share this time with you in the "Boomerang Express."

We would like to extend an open invitation to each of you to join us for worship at any time. Our Sunday services times are 10 for Bible study and 11 for morning worship. If you do not have a church home, we invite you to be part of our congregation. We will not promise you the world, but we will promise you God. God loves you and so do we. Come experience God with us! God bless you and keep you in his tender care.

Mt. Carmel No. 1

We would like to thank you for visiting Mt. Carmel No. 1. It's our prayer that you experienced God's love while you were here.

God is so good to us and blessed us very much Sunday as we shared fellowship together after the morning service. We gathered in the fellowship hall with a bountiful meal in support of Relay for Life. Thanks to all that had a part in preparing the lunch and donations.

Bro. Ricky's message for Sunday morning, "Foolishly Rich," was taken from Luke 12:13-21. Sunday night's message, "The True Foundation," was from Luke 6:46-49. Dig deep and lay your foundation on a rock, Jesus Christ.

Prime-Timers has been called off for this month. Our director, Minnie Mae Childress, is still on our sick list. Remember her when you pray. We miss you Minnie.

Sunday, June 14 we will meet at the Confederate Memorial Park near Marbury. We will start at 10:30 a.m. for preaching and singing, and we will grill out hamburgers and hotdogs afterward. We will have games and fellowship later that day. There will be no evening services.

We have prayer time every Sunday morning, following Sunday School. Feel free to join us in the prayer room for a short time of prayer.

July 12-17 is Vacation Bible School "Boomerang Express" for all ages. Come one, come all.

Please remember to pray for those on our prayer list, the sick and shut-ins, military, leaders, churches, pastors and our church family. Tell someone about Jesus and what he has done in your life.

Cedar Grove Methodist-Protestant Church

Happy birthday to Sabrina Wood, Shaina Muir and Tyler, Gwen McGuire's grandson. Happy anniversary to Larry and Dianne Patterson.

Welcome to all our visitors; we loved having you with us, so please come again.

Remember to pray for all our sick and shut-ins. Ellen Ruth and Jim Scott are having a trying time now so please keep them in your prayers. Pray for our country.

Bro. Jeff preached a good sermon Sunday morning entitled "Fight the Good Fight." His scripture came from 1 Timothy 6:2-12. We are so blessed to have a God-called pastor. Bro. Jeff preaches where even the small children understand what he is saying.

Sunday evening, Bro. Heath Vines brought us a good sermon entitled, "Is Your All on the Altar?" His scripture came from Genesis 22:1-14.

We had two very good services Sunday, and the altar filled both times. The Lord truly came by.

Would you like a home church that has warm and friendly members who love the Lord and try their best to serve him? Cedar Grove is that church, and we need you. We have a nursery for the babies, children's church, and classes for all ages.

The service begins at 10 a.m. Evening service 5:30 p.m. Wednesday night 7 p.m.

We are located three miles south of Thorsby just off County Road 37, next to Bro. Harold Garrison's Farm. We really appreciate Bro. Harold; he keeps his land so pretty. It really makes our church look good too.

Have a blessed week.

Oak Grove Church of God

Paul wrote to Timothy to not delay coming to Rome to visit. He appealed to Timothy not to tarry but to come soon as Paul knew that the end was near. He asked Timothy to bring John Mark with him and to bring his coat, his books and especially his papers. To reinforce the urgency, Paul admonished him to come before winter. Paul knew that once winter set in there could be no travel by sea until spring.

How many times do we feel a need to visit a friend or family member but fail to do so only to have that person pass away before we got around to that visit? How badly we were made to feel that we delayed our visit and death took them from us, and how we wished that we had seen them first. How many times in a marriage do we let neglect of our responsibility allow that marriage to fail because we waited too late to realize that we were not fulfilling our role in the marriage? How we wish that we had acted before that marriage failed beyond hope. There are a number of life events where we neglect to act on a need only to realize too late that we have missed the final opportunity to do the right thing. The most important decision we must not neglect is the decision to repent of our sins and accept Christ as our Savior. When we neglect other life responsibilities, we may have regrets, but when we neglect Christ the result will be an eternity without any hope for tomorrow. Accept Christ today before it is eternally too late!

Oak Grove Church is truly being blessed of God, and we can see his hand at work as we prepare to move forward with our building program. Oak Grove is on the move with God's help to be able to better serve Him and our community. To God be the glory.

If you do not have a church home we invite you to come worship God with us and be a part of our church family at Oak Grove. Service times are: Sunday School at 10 a.m., worship service at 10:45, Sunday evening service at 5:30 and Wednesday night service at 7.

Our church is easy to find. When you leave Clanton heading south on US 31 turn left at Peach Park and follow the signs to Oak Grove Church of God.

Bethsalem Baptist Church

Sunday's service began with mission moments. We learned that we had 213 in attendance for Vacation Bible School, 152 of which were children. Ten children prayed to receive Christ. Praise the Lord, and thanks to Janice Gray, Kim Edwards and all others who helped make this a great week.

Bro. Brad Eubank's sermon, "Dealing With the Big D," was from Matthew 5:31-32. The evening message was titled, "12 Extraordinary Women."

Prayer list: Charles Bryant, James Moore, Hunter Moore, Myra Burnett, Margaret Price, W.L. Broome, Eugene Smith, Maxwell Blalock, Jerry Smith, Charles Blow, Opal Stone, Carol Gore, Hilda Allen, Eloise Edwards, Amber Smitherman, Christy Vance, Helen Mims, Raymond Jones, Tony Wearren, Donna Matthews, Jean and Gloria Bradberry, Bernice Bennett, Mary Nell Cooedy, Michael Epsiman, Terri Bowin, Allison Bailey, Diane Hogman, Bobbie Smith, Dale Shackleford, Meade Bryant, all our shut-ins and those facing cancer. 52 Weeks to a Better You: Memory verse for this week: is 1 John 2:15: "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him."

We had good services Sunday. We miss those who are still not able to be in our services because of surgeries or other illnesses.

Sunday morning Bro. Aubry's message was from Job 14:13-15: "When My Change Comes." Job was in the midst of a time of many afflictions and longed for the day when God would take him out of this world, but his was not a hopeless call; he looked forward to the time when his change would come. Death is a certainty for all of us if the Lord delays His coming. As believers we know these old bodies will be changed, and we will spend eternity with Him. The Apostle Paul was looking for that hope: In Philippians 1:21 he said, "For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain."

"Forgiveness -- Our Obligation," taken from Romans 12:17-21 and Matthew 6:14-15 was the subject of Bro. Aubry's sermon at the night service. It was because of our sins that God gave His son to die for us. And God forgives us! The writer of Hebrews 8:12 tells us that God will not remember our sins anymore. We must also forgive those who have wronged us if we expect God to forgive us and hear our prayers. And Romans 12:19-21 says we are not to take revenge upon those who wrong us, but to do good to them. We should earnestly pray for God's blessings to be on them.

Prayer List: Bonnie Burks, Lillian Burkhalter, Lela Mae Courtney, Amos Crawford, Mildred Crawford, Ellen Gray, Ophelia Griffin, Rosalind Griffin, Chris Knight, Doug Mims, Helen Mims, Billie Neeley, Pastor and Mrs. Wallace, and Wanda Wilson.

See you Sunday!

Walnut Creek United Methodist Church

The beautiful altar flowers were placed by Tim and Debbie Popwell in memory of Timothy, and flowers to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary of Jim and Norma Popwell and the arrangement of daylilies in the vestibule was by Ray and Myrtice Enfinger.

Special music was by Bro. Tony and Norma Popwell. It was great to see Thomas Hughes back after his surgery in his foot. A great big welcome to our newest member, Shirley Henley.

We remembered our veterans who stormed the beaches of Normandy, proving once again that freedom is not free.

Bro. Tony reminded us that this day is set aside in the Christian calendar to remember the Trinity.

Bro. Tony's message was from Mark 2:25- 27 and 3:1-8. God the father is the deep root, The Son is the shoot that breaks forth into the world, and the Spirit is that which brings beauty and fragrance. The Pharisees said to Jesus, "Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath." He answered, "Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need?" Then he said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath." Then Jesus asked them in verse 4, "Which is lawful on the Sabbath? To do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?" God cannot if we will not! What is today? What's best, to go to church or to be a servant of God? We must do both. All things work together for good for those that love God and are called according to his purpose.

Happy birthdays in June: Sue Belcher, Ruby Duke, Mary Joyce Gilliland, Ben Handley, Taylor Hughes, Tony Hughes Jr., Michael and Nicole Jones, Doris Maddox, Kenzie Mims, Early Popwell, Evelyn Stapp.

Happy Anniversaries in June: Jerry and Mary Joyce Gilliland, Larry and Diane Handley, Jim and Norma Popwell, Chuck and Carol Traetto.
