Swine flu case found in Autauga
Published Thursday, June 4, 2009
The Alabama Department of Public Health confirmed Thursday its first case of the swine flu--H1N1 influenza--in Autauga County. As of June 3, there were 92 confirmed and eight probable cases of the swine flu in the state.
The newest case means swine flu cases have now been confirmed in 15 of the state’s 67 counties.
Madison County has had the largest number of cases with 35, followed by Montgomery and Etowah counties with eight cases each. Another county neighboring Chilton County, Shelby County, has confirmed four cases.
Approximately half of those confirmed cases in the state have been in those under 13 years of age. The symptoms of swine flu are similar to the symptoms of traditional influenza and include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue.

My sister, and my two great-nieces (ages 3 and 4) both just got over swine flu.... there's no panic but thank goodness the media talked about it so their mother knew to get them checked.
I don't see anything in this report that incites panic ... it just informs. This is a NEWSpaper ... and this is news.

I suppose we need to give the media some credit. The ridiculous hype surrounding the swine flu a month ago bordered on the shameful. I don't know if reader complaints made any difference or if the media outlets just wised or figured it was more detrimental to those on their hit list to refocus their attention on how the CIA lied to congress about waterboarding or how global warming is gonna kill us all before the swine flu, but they reeled in the panic.
Now, they're almost cautiously starting to generate news again. Not only that, most media outlets are reporting the whole story - that yes this may be a pandemic but unless you are suffering from other unrelated health problems (that would make ANY strain of the flu dangerous to you), you probably don't have anything to worry about.

Mr. Graves, I'm sure the families who have lost their loved ones, due to the swine flu, do not find it as amusing as you do. My mother always told us, "less said, less mended". A lot of you would be better off if you would try to remember that.

GEEEZZZZ!!!!!! Welcome to the United States of the Offended!!!!!! And yes, I find the Porky Pig Flu HYPE very amusing. Not the flu or it's victims, just the media hype. GET OVER IT!
