County Road 42 in line for repairs
Published Monday, June 1, 2009
One of Jemison’s main thoroughfares will be getting some due upgrades in the near future.
The Jemison City Council entered into a contract with Montgomery-based firm Goodwyn, Mills & Cawood, Inc. Monday night to oversee an engineering project on County Road 42.
The highway, which connects U.S. Highway 31 and I-65 Exit 219, is heavily traveled and is in need of repair in several areas. The road has been mentioned numerous times in council meetings in reference to water-related damage and other issues.
Jemison Mayor Eddie Reed said the purpose of the project was “for upgrades and repairs.”
In other business, the council accepted the resignation of Keith Crosby from the Jemison Police Department and voted to post the position for a period of 10 days according to job specifications.
The council also went into an executive session for the discussion of preliminary negotiations involving matters of trade or commerce.
The council adjourned shortly before 7 p.m.

I wish they would make this section of 42 between 31 and 65 a four lane road.

Amen. The same trucks that destroy that road sometimes also travel it at 10-15 mph below the speed limit. If you are trying to make an appointment or pick up a kid from school, that little stretch can make you late.

Or one of those days where traffic has been detoured from 65 onto 42 then 31, don't even think about getting anywhere on time. And the road as it is, isn't even wide enough to hardly have 2 big trucks pass going in different directions. It is such a high traffic area that needs some attention. Not to mention probably the thousands of folks who use it everyday to get to the interstate. And don't be surprised to find a tractor backing up traffic there either.

Nice attack, mtfarms.
my2cents was simply stating that the road should be widened to 4 lanes. If it were, then people could pass your tractor without you having to pull over, then everyone would be happy.

We actually own tractors. I can't "go back to town" as I never lived in town. But if you would like to get technical this specific stretch of road we are discussing happens to be in the city limits already. On this specific stretch of road I have gotten behind tractors several times. If it was 4 lane, there would be a passing lane to get around the tractors.
