over_chiltonco... Your comment is rather on the slanderous side. I would carefully read the user's agreement on this website before I posted such a statement about a young girl. These are serious accusations against this young lady's character!

Well, even if it is posted on her MySpace or Facebook I still wouldn't make such comments on a PUBLIC forum. Remember...it really isn't "anonymous" on here at all.

"I am entitled to my opinion even if it weren't true."

You might want to read this......

It isn't based on who can represent the County the Best...it is based on who has the most money or knows the most people involved in the pageant. Can someone please tell me what this pageant is....Beauty or Money pageant?

I did not go to the pageant, but my daughter has been in alot of them. I have seen her win/place when she shouldn't have and she has went home empty handed when I thought she would place. Before you enter your child in a pageant, remember this is (usually) 3 peoples opinions, NOT THE WORLDS. According to the pictures in the paper, the judges done good, but I'm sure they were all beautiful.

just for clarification, on wed and thurs night practice - they did practice with the girls where to stand if their name was called as one of the top ten, ten numbers were chosen at random each night to demonstrate to the girls how to line up when/if their number was called the night of the pageant. this was not the 'top 10' this was practice. my daughter was randomly selected in the top ten practice session on one night- she DID NOT make it to the top ten in the pageant. She had a great time, loved getting dressed up and all the excitement. Her first question was when was the next pageant she could be in. The winners chosen may or may not have been the ones each of us would have chosen, and the fact is if another set of judges were there, it is very probable another set of girls would have been chosen as winners. We all have different opionions and preferences, which is good. It wouldnt do for all of us to like the same thing. Of course every mom and dad and grandparent represented at the pageant by a contestant wanted their little girl to be chosen as the winner, that is not possible for all to go home with the crown. How the contestants and parents behave after the pageant is whats important. No my daughter didnt win, she didnt place, she didnt even make it to the top ten - but she is a winner. Shes learning at a young age that life is not always about 'ME' Participating in this pageant and others is one way in preparing her for school- how to interact with others, how to support others in their accomplishments, how to handle disappointment, how to keep a smile on your face etc. Now if she ever starts to cry after a pageant is over that will be the end of pageants for us. If she starts with comments like " i should have won or having a tantrum b/c she didnt win- the pageants are over. But right now she is demonstrating the innocence of childhood, she is leaving with a smile on her face and pride in herself. She is rejoicing in her own accomplishments! She made improvements within herself from Peach to the Miss Chilton County County and she understands someone has to win but someone also has 'to not win' and thats ok! So for all of you out there questioning the winners from fri. night- I am so proud of my little girl for walking off that stage with such pride. Yes, in my eyes she was the prettiest little girl in the competetion- and the parents of the winners chosen I'm sure feel the same way about their daughters. Congratulations to Katherine Speaks and all the alternates- we will see you at the next pageant!

WOW!! 18 comments about a beauty pageant.

Rickey... Funny how the comment got pulled. Even Graves predicted it was bad enough to be pulled AND it was..... I don't think you would been so quick to defend the comment if it had been about a daughter or sister of yours..... By the way, nobody has to be "qualified" to determine when derogatory comments are carried too far. Common sense is all it takes! For those of you who didn't see the post before it was pulled, the teenage girl who had won in a previous contest was called by NAME in the posting and some accusations were made against her. I would take up for any young person who personally gets slammed on a forum....especially when they are called by name.

By the way Rickey...this is from YOUR OWN post on July 9th...

"If a comment proves to be generally offensive, then it should be deleated. One can use their own common sense as to what constitutes "offensive." Swear words, derogatory comments, and that ilk come to mind."

Can you honestly say that the comments were not derogatory?
