Police confiscate counterfeit money
Published Wednesday, July 22, 2009
Jemison police uncovered $85 in counterfeit money Sunday during a traffic stop on Chilton County Road 42.
Corey Coggins, 20, of Deatsville, was arrested and charged with counterfeiting in U.S. currency and attempt to commit a controlled substance crime. Arsenio Cuenca Jr., 24, was also arrested and charged with attempt to commit a controlled substance crime. Both are felony charges.
Special
Jemison police confiscated several counterfeit bills Sunday during a traffic stop. Police chief Shane Fulmer said while the bills look real at first glance, there are ways to indentify fakes.
During a search, police found in the vehicle a computer and a printer they believe were used to make the counterfeit $5 and $20 bills.
Jemison Chief of Police Shane Fulmer said at first glance the bills looked legitimate, but several features gave them away.
“All the serial numbers were the same,” Fulmer said. “The coloring was a good bit different.”
Police also believe the two men were planning to purchase narcotics with the money at an unknown location.
To prevent counterfeit bills from entering circulation, Fulmer encourages local businesses to check the money they receive for counterfeit bills.
“Across the entire country as well as in our area in today’s times, counterfeit money seems to be a problem,” Fulmer said.
Fulmer said identifying counterfeit bills can be tricky.
“Nowadays they even generate counterfeit money where you can’t even detect it by the pens,” Fulmer said.
Fulmer said some area businesses have begun using ultraviolet lighting to illuminate a strip inside the newer legitimate bills instead of using counterfeit-detecting pens.
Fulmer said the Jemison Police Department has information packets available about detecting counterfeit money for anyone interested.

Perhaps they felt like since our government is printing so much money that they could help out and print some too :-)

We all know that the bordor patrol handles illegal aliens too, but years ago unless you had a bus load, they told you to put them on the bus home, and the FBI handles bank robbers, but most are arrested by local police, and then the FBI comes in and handles the case. The secret service is busy looking for real counterfiters, printing real amounts of bills to pass to defraud legal businesses. Now if you would only get real, and get off the local law enforcement's case simply because their actions don't suit you, you might get along better with them. They like you and I have to comply with the law.

I say they should have let the fools use the counterfieted money to buy drugs. The dealers would have taken care of that little problem.
But no, our local law enforcement agencies have to do thier jobs.

Dont' worry about counterfeit money. Obama and the spendacrats are going to cause our economy to faulter at the excessive rate they are having money printed and spend for which we will have to pay for.
Will a little bit of counterfeit money matter? It could if there was enough of it. I was mostly cracking on the spendacrats.

So....I have to ask, American Nimrod, what did the Secret Service say when you called??? I hope they didn't say the same thing Graves just said! Although, I wouldn't be surprised.

I'm pretty sure I know what they said.
"Oooohhhhh! Are you always drunk/high, or just plain STUPID?"

"As someone said in a movie.....Stupid is as stupid does."
You better hope those guys in the white jackets don't come nosy around your place.

I usually don't get involved in the conversations that go on in these Blogs but I feel that someone has to speak out on the behalf of Law Enforcement. Just for the purpose helping everyone understand how things work when dealing with a federal agency. The suspect is charged in State or local court upon initial arrest, The federal agency is then notified by the department that made the arrest. In these type of cases, the bills and copies of the paperwork are then turned over to the Secret Service office in Montgomery for prosecution in Federal court if the agency decides they wish to investigate the case.

KW: How can Nimrod tell if it's you or Karen? Do you have two screen names. Never seen you upset like this so it must have been bad. Either way he shouldn't have done it but I'm just asking do you both post under the same name? I hear people all the time getting ugly emails from posters here, good lord it's just different opinions.

Whoah! According to some of the blogs that have been posted, I think we could all use this....
Billy Graham's Prayer For Our Nation
'Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.. We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem. We have abused power and called it politics.... We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition.. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression. We have
ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment. Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and Set us free. Amen!'

Would imagine if someone was making counterfeit money, the cost for the materials would amount to more than the 85.00 confiscated. Those two might not have even known the money they had was not real. Look at the entire circle including drugs. Am sure law agencies felt, where there is a little, they would find a whole lot more. After all 85.00 almost is not worth the effort if someone is stupid enough to make it. Steve ... thanks for the insight on Nimrod. Sorry to hear someone would stoop low enough to send tasteless emails as described. Guess he found out across state lines, emails can be addressed.

Graves, if you and your wife share an e-mail address there is no way that Mr. Powell would know that. I am sure he didn't mean that for your wife.
I do have an issue with one of your post though. You brought up Mr. Powell's wife and the fact that she sued the BOE. I would like to know why you think it is appropriate to bring is wife into this when I haven't seen any post from her on here. The fact that she sued the BOE is in the past and calling them cowards because they left the county. You say she sued them in 1998 and I know for a fact they didn't leave right away. They didn't move until the middle 2003. So, I think it is wrong to call his wife a coward and say that is why they left. I think you crossed a line there. Yes, he was wrong to have sent a vulgar e-mail, but you are no better to bring in a person into this discussion that is not even involved in it. So, he may owe your wife an apology, but you owe is wife an apology for calling her a coward. Besides to say that you want to give some one Hemlock is wrong. Especially, if you are talking about poisoning someone.

I see there is no reaction to this post. But I want to clarify some things that needs attention. First of all for Karen. I never knew that you read his e-mail. It seems that he is the one that should read them not you because he is the one that posts them. And second, I appologise to Karen not only about the foul language to you, but I appologise that you live with a person that is using you as a shield for him to get behind you for his attitude and that is a sign for what he called me and my wife. My wife did not appreciate that one bit and I agree with Lady36 on what she commented (thank you for the correction we did leave in 2003). But third, I address to Steve Graves (since he blert out my name) you need to get a life son. Why do you hide thinking that you are in Las Vegas or Timbuktoo when you live out on County Road 7 and think you live a big time life (Oh yea, I get my sources as well)? "As for me, he can visit with me ANYTIME, especially when we stay at the Marriott Grand Hotel/Resort/Spa in Point Clear". Yea, why don't you come to me rather than me come to you coward? You may have a weapon on your side to kill me. I am not that fracking stupid. So we are even. You know where I live, now I know where you live. So you wish to give me hemlock. Another word for that is Conium. is a genus of two species of highly poisonous perennial herbaceous flowering plants in the family Apiaceae, native to Europe and the Mediterranean region (C. maculatum), and to southern Africa.
So you wish me dead? I already made a copy of the post you did. That is wishing me dead. What was them words? "If you don't like Chilton County, you either end up dead or your house burned down". I have kept the copy of the post you made as insurance.
So a public appology has been made for Karen. But for Steve, it takes a coward to know a coward.

Oh man, come on.
You know, I have had my recent difference of philosophy with Mr. Graves, and granted, his displeasure with some of my beliefs does not really seem to rival the disdain brewing between you two. That being said, I am sure you are trying with your post to strike a mighty blow in his direction.
Well, there are a couple of things that you write yourself that are more detrimental to your position than anything Steven has said.
First off, I too wanted to know who I was addressing so I did a quick search. I found the same information as you. However, you said this came from some "source," might that source me Google, or perhaps whitepages.com? Just saying, he has a listed number--you know, public record.
Another, you did not know what Hemlock was. To prove my point, I typed the word into google and I came up with a site that read: "Conium is a genus of two species of perennial herbaceous flowering plants in the family Apiaceae, native to Europe and the Mediterranean region (C. maculatum), and to southern Africa."
Unless you wrote that entry, then you copied and pasted it and passed it off as your own words. That is plagiarism.
Next, and please know man, I am not one to cast stones. I believe you reap what you so, and I enjoy reaping the harvest of good seeds. That being said, man your grammar really tends to discredit your position. I know I will, just like everyone, screw up in a post and not fix it, but your post was suffered from some very serious issues--subject/verb agreement, improper word tense issues, etc. I am dyslexic, so I know what it is like to screw up on a post. When I am really concerned with getting my message across, I will actually write the post in Microsoft Word, so that the word processor function will help with the errors. Then, I copy that and past it into the comment box--just a tip there.
Finally, and if there is any field of study I know a little about, sadly, I chose this. You were not threatened with death. That being said, whatever copy you have of anything he said is useless. For a death threat to mean anything, a reasonable person, in a similarly situated position, would have to be able to read the statements made and fear for their safety. If the statement was made in a public forum, that pretty well kills the credibility of the statement. Plus, being said in such a form would cause you immense issues as to the admissibility of evidence. And, even if you were to get over all the possible obstacles, what are your damages?

Agreed davyhay on the public record. But hemlock is a poison. I got that info from wikipedia.com.
He expects me to take it and die. But I agree with you that I was not threatened with death but it sounded like it.
But good point on Microsoft Word...NICE!
Since I was American_Nimrod_2, I just state facts not fiction. I pursue the truth in all this. Question, why can the county live like the outsiders can? Just being equal. I lived there for 40 years and I know too much. But we did not move out for that purpose. It was because of my wife got a better job here in Baldwin County because the pay was more better. When you live in Baldwin County, the pay rate is more than other counties combine. But sorry to say, her eyes got worse and she is more blind. She has Aniridia. An eye disease. But she had cataracts and now she can see more, but it can get worse in the long run. I feel you davyhay. And all is forgotten....

He did not expect you to take it. He made an off the cuff humorous remake that no reasonable person would take seriously. This would be similar to you telling a person who is getting on you nerves to "go play in traffic."

Sorry to hear about your wife. My wife gets deposits on her eyes--I am not sure they name of her condition at the moment--and she has a high possibility of suffering serious vision loss in the long run. That being said, my out position not being as dire as yours, I still feel for you guys.

Well, Graves, it doesn't matter who I am. I know the Powell's very well and just think it is wrong for you to bring a lady into this that had nothing actually to do with the conversation. As for me I normally don't even post but I couldn't just sit back and let you say something about Mrs. Powell without taking up for a good friend. But, I think all of this should be over with. Mr. Powell apologized and I think everyone should move on.

My wife is not Lady36. I know who it is though. She called me Sunday. Its one of my cousins. Patricia don't have a account on here. Besides, her eyesight is bad. She now has cataracts in both eyes and she has aniridia. If you don't know what that is, its an eye disease and it is hereditary.
