Published Thursday, July 2, 2009

As the month of July begins, those with last names beginning with “I” or “M” will receive citations if they have not renewed their car tags last month.

Layne McGalliard renews his vehicle tags Monday at the license renewal office in Clanton.

June was the first month vehicle owners did not receive mailed reminders to renew their plates due to a lack of funding in the tax collector’s office.

Tim Little, Chilton County tax collector, said some methods of renewal seem to have been affected, while others seem normal.

“The renewals through the mail are really off, and online renewals are really down this month,” Little said.

However, Little said the office windows have been as busy as ever with vehicle owners renewing their tags.

While some people see the absence of reminders as an inconvenience, others see it as a good way to cut costs.

Little said he has received feedback for both views.

“I got a handful of e-mails from people for and against it,” Little said.

In the month of July, those whose last names begin with “L” or “P” will need to renew their tags.

Look at all the article's accompanying photo. Does it bother anyone else that the tag renewal office is filled with dozens of family photos and tons of irrelevant clutter????

you should not worry about what is in someone's work area! as long as you get your tag .

I don't "worry" about their personal effects in the work area...I just think so much of it is unprofessional in a government office.

My mother in law had to get her tags x 4 this month and I want to make an announcement. SHE didn't get a reminder either. I guess the ones complaining are all the IRRESPONSIBLE people. Think of it like this. Our economy is suffering in all points. You know when to renew your tag, we saved a tree by not sending out the reminders that you throw on your dashboard and in the long run less mess, less fuss. Why don't we just stop complaining and live life to its fullest. Think about this when your Uncle dies, do you have to have aninvitation to the funeral? No its your duty. So look at your plate and get in the game. Happy INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!!!

A wise man once said, he who goes fourth with a fifth on the fourth may not go fourth on the fifth.

Due to the economy I can no longer afford to renew my vehicle registration. I hope the county understands. These are tough times and Obammer's stimluss ain't got down to me yet. I am still quite unstimulated.

well i guess those who are forgetful and dont remember to renew their tag on time, will help assist in aquiring additional funds through the payment of fines and court cost and late fees. theyre going to get it one way or the other.

Chilly 1104: You know the tax office belongs to everyone equally. So anyone who wishes may take their own pictures and stick them around where desired in that office. Just use some good non-removable glue. They do not have to be your own relative pictures. Just make sure they are clean and in good taste. If they are removed, you simply go in and remove an equal amount of your choice.
