Teen charged with breaking into store

Published Wednesday, July 1, 2009

A Verbena teenager was arrested Wednesday morning after apparently breaking into Action Motorsports in Clanton.

Timothy Jake Wells Jr., 19, faces charges of burglary and theft of property. He is being held in the Chilton County Jail. No bond has been set as of Wednesday afternoon.

Clanton police responded to a security alarm from Action Motorsports about 5:15 a.m.

When the first officer arrived, Wells drove his pickup truck into a nearby field and then fled on foot, according to Police Chief Brian Stilwell. Officers soon found and arrested the teenager.

Police recovered a 2009 Suzuki 4-wheeler in the same field. Stilwell said it appears Wells was trying to load the 4-wheeler into the back of his truck when officers arrived.

Investigators believe another suspect and vehicle are possibly involved in the burglary.

“We had some witnesses who saw a small red pickup leave right before officers arrived,” said Stilwell.

Tracking dogs were brought in to look for other suspects, but Stilwell said if more people were involved, they likely left in the red truck.

Police also found a red Honda dirt bike on back of Wells’ truck. Police believe it too was stolen from a different location.

The burglar(s) entered Action Motorsports by prying open a garage door, which suffered “considerable” damage, according to Stilwell.

Anyone with information about the case should contact the Clanton Police Department at 755-1194.

Wow. Not exactly one of Chilton County's best and brightest, huh?

He needs to break in to whatever store he bought that necklace from and take it back.

Whoever gave him that haircut was playing a serious joke on him…”Yeah, that looks so cool” ;-)

I am wondering who his dad is. If, and I emphasize IF, it is who I am thinking of, well, you can't judge parents by their kids and vice-versa. But I remember one individual with that name from Verbena, who was a perpetual offender.

This kid's parents are good people. Mother is an upstanding lady in the community and is well liked. Dad is real quite but very friendly and a good guy. These parents have done everything they know to do with this kid and have given him every opportunity to succeed. He is just a very rebellious young man.
