BOE selects cell provider, makes some buses surplus

The Chilton County Board of Education approved Verizon Wireless’ bid for cellular service yesterday, and gave the green light to Transportation Supervisor Joe Dennis to bid out six surplus school buses.
The board also approved a measure to decrease the travel allowance to 55 cents per mile, abiding by the state rate that became effective Jan. 1.
In other business, the board:
• Approved recommendation that www.govdeals.com be the official auction site for the sale of used equipment and the superintendent and transportation supervisor be authorized to accept the bids on the site.
• Approved recommendation to pay a supplement of $1,710 to Sheri McKee for “Blast from the Past.”
• Approved a recommendation that May 6 be set for Special Olympics with May 7 being the official rain date.
• Approved a recommendation for intervention providers in reading and math at Clanton Elementary and Clanton Intermediate schools.
• Approved a recommendation hiring Emily Espenan as the new history teacher at Clanton Middle School.
• Approved recommendation for Thorsby High School request for permission for the Varsity Cheerleaders to attend summer cheerleader camp in Panama City, Fla., July 30 – Aug. 2 and for LeCroy Career/Technical Center request for permission to use a bus and pay a driver to transport Healthcare students to clinical sessions.
• Approved recommendation to e-rate pricing.
• Approved recommendation of substitute employees.
