Jewell works hard in community

Published Thursday, February 26, 2009

Tara Jewell has been working since she was 13 years old.

At that time, she was working at the Dari Delite in Thorsby. Now, she is a loan advisor at City Loans in addition to being on the Town Council of Thorsby.

Although she has just recently been elected to the council, she has always been involved with community activities. When she lived just outside of the town limits, she held the office of secretary of Collins Chapel Fire Station No. 2, which is something she enjoyed doing.

“I loved working with the fire department,” she said.

She’s also a member of Victims of Crime and Leniency in Alabama and works with other organizations including United Cerebral Palsy and the March of Dimes. She’s also a member of Collins Chapel Baptist Church and has worked with youth league cheerleading.

Jewell is married to Ron Jewell. They have four kids, Justin, Lindsey, Taylor and Ross. Taylor is the reason why Tara is so involved in UCP because he has cerebral palsy. Although he may have the disease, Tara said he doesn’t let that slow him down.

“He’s just one of the kids,” Jewell said.
