My God is so good to me

Published Wednesday, August 5, 2009

"O sing unto the Lord a new song: sing unto the Lord, all the earth. Sing unto the Lord, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among all people. For the Lord is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared aboved all Gods. For all the Gods of the nations are idols: but the Lords made the heavens. Honour and majesty are before him: strength and beauty are in his sanctuary. Give unto the Lord, I ye kindreds of people, give unto the Lord glory and strength. Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come into his courts. O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth. Say among the heathen that the Lord reigneth: the world also shall be established that it shall not be moved: he shall judge the people righteously. Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea roar, and the fullness thereof. Let the field be joyful, and all that is therein: then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice. Before the Lord: for he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth: he shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with his truth" (Psalm 96:1-13).

Thought for the week: "So Good"

"My God is so good to me! I thank Him every day for blessings that He gives to me all along life's way. He gives many precious friends who understand and care, and every time I need His help I know He hears my prayer. He knows how often I would fall were He not by my side. So He sends His Holy Spirit to be my constant guide. His love is greater than I know! He's happy to forgive, and then He wants to help me in obedience to live. My God is very good to me! I hope you know Him, too. For all the things He does for me he wants to do for you."

The Rev. and Mrs. M. L. Harville will celebrate his 10th anniversary as pastor of New Antioch Baptist Church in Jemison on Sunday, Aug. 9, at 3 p.m. The Rev. William D. Walker, pastor of Everdale Missionary Baptist Church, will be the guest speaker. All pastors and their congregations are invited.

Worship service at Holly Grove Baptist Church in Jemison began with praise service by the senior choir with prayer, scripture and songs. Songs sung included, "How Great Thou Art," "God Has What You Need" and "On Time God, Yes He Is." The scripture was read by Willie Nunn with prayer by W. L. Nunn and Pastor Dukes.

The morning message was given by Pastor Dukes. His theme: "Being Good Is Not Enough." Nice and coming to Church is not enough. You have to be his child, or he will say, 'Depart, I never knew you.' Good is not enough, make the best decision you can and you will hear, 'Servant, well done.' He was pleased with Steven, pleased with his Son -- what about you? Cornelius was a model of a Christian, but he had good characteristics but very little power; he had Christian ways but no anointing. He needed to grow in Christ -- he was incomplete. Cornelius was a man of character and serious about his job. He feared God, ruled his house well, and was generous. He prayed to God always but he was not there yet. He prayed in faith. God was watching him and wanted him to go beyond being good. He received instructions to hear God. He was obedient. God gave him instructions where to go. He was not complete; don't doubt God. He filled Cornelius with the Holy Ghost. He was complete when Jesus moved in His heart. Jesus is the highway to heaven. Jesus is God's Son -- the Rock in a weary land, food when you hungry will make you complete, serve a God who died, but lives again.

The service concluded with benediction by Pastor Dukes.

Our sympathy goes out to the family of Mrs. Gennie Pasley in their time of bereavement. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time. Agee Brother's Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.

On our sick list this week we ask you to remember in your prayers: Linda Clay, J. D. Scott, Sam and Vivian Hicks, Joseph McCall, Queen Worthey, Pinkie Nix, Lee Anna Worthey, Bubba Rogers and Rebecca Roberts. May God heal, strengthen, and keep them in His care is our prayer.
